Just wonderful! No matter what nowadays nordmacedonians think of us, Bulgaria and the Bulgarians were the only people, next to the people in Macedonia I hope, that really embrace, love a cherish the Macedonian culture, which is to every Bulgarian a true part of his hart. And so it should be for our brothers in Macedonia with Bulgarian culture. We share the same soul. kzbin.info/www/bejne/kH3LoGRuZ5lsn8k

Ethel did a collection of village songs of Bulgaria. I own it on vinyl. I don't now know where it can be found, but it is beautiful. The Koutev albums are also so authentic and beautiful. We all got our repertoires from them. This was when there was still an Iron Curtain. Thanks to Pennywhistlers & Pete Seeger's Rainbow Quest for publicizing this wonderful music. Check out Kitka & Danika who are taking this music into the future.

In 1966when Pete put them on Rainbow Quest, here in the Bay Area, lots and lots of young folks and many older folks were dancing kolo and singing from the songs we got from Koutev Ensemble and watching Parajanov's masterpiece, "Shadows of our Forgotten ancestors" about the Hutsul people it seemed like our entire generation was fixated with this gorgeous music & the traditional dances that went to it. Let's revive that interest. Check out Kitka and Davka.

All over the world folks are singing along. This is the one Balkan piece almost every Balkan singer knows well. Check out Kitka. Their version has a different arrangement. Ethel Raim directed this one.

A Derroll Adams classic! He was from Portland Oregon and performed often with Ramblin' Jack Eliott and influenced a young Donovan in the UK and he passed away in 2000. The Pennywhistlers perform this piece in a stunning way like the Watersons. This is extremely rare to catch this performance.

I have loved this song all my life! They sang at the Fox Hollow Folk Festival in the 60s and 70s, we were the Haile Family Dancers - Dick and Bess Haile and 'us kids'... loved Bob and Evelyne Beers and all of the good music... wonderful experiences for "children and other living things" :-) Peace!

I'll bet you can find the entire album on KZbin. Try finding the list of songs on it and looking each up independently. I'm blown away at how much is on KZbin. Also, Kitka has recordings of most everything. They are located in Oakland CA.
