7 years late but just wanted to add, you can also use the command prompt to replace the utility manager with a elevated command prompt. Then you can press the utility manager button on the login screen and have elevated command prompt without logging in. (This is crazy because you can use it to make an admin account to login with, giving full control of the pc)

No matter how smart you are, if they get people who don't know the Internet so well or it's so well crafted, that you fall for it.

But how does it freeze the computer screen because it did on mine? I even tried using the Task Manager to End Process on my browser but it wouldn't do anything. Plus, it looked like it was downloading a device. When I turned off the computer and rebooted in safe mode it was showing a device downloading on my taskbar. Even the page with my Device and Printers looked different. I finally did a System Restore to an earlier time, ran a couple malware and virus scans and everything seems fine but I'm still nervous.

Some alarm systems now these days don’t use a phone line anymore. They use wireless transceiver antennas inside the board now.

They tried this on me a couple weeks ago, calling my cell when I was at work. They had my address, but I didn't give them anything over the phone, though I was getting nervous. I told them my account showed that my payments had all gone through, but they told me they'd "switched their payment vendor" and had notified me by mail and I hadn't responded. I didn't remember getting anything like that by mail, but they said it didn't matter and that a technician was en route RIGHT NOW. They texted me a barcode and said I could go to Walmart to pay it, but I had to keep them on the line. But I hung up after talking to my co-workers and they said it sounded fishy. They tried to call me back a couple of times, but I declined the calls. As upset as I let them get me, I was still determined not to give them anything unless I talked to a trusted, confirmed Atlantic City Electric rep. This was on a Saturday...on Veterans' Day, no less. That should have set off red flags...what utility company would send out technicians on a weekend?

Hello, Jim Sadly I fell for this scam and gave them a credit card. My red flags didn't go off until late. I immediately called Microsoft and they told me to shut down my computer because they had control. I also called the credit card company and canceled the card before any transaction cleared. Today I received a call from them stating they are going to suit me for not owning up to the contract. Any advice? Help

@3:00 when the Sounder went off the alarm had already been sent to the alarm company. He didn't disable jack squat.

However...a SDR Software Defined Radio could record a signal from a wireless alarm device and if you can retransmit that signal you could overpower the RF from the device, break in, and simulate a device that has not been tripped. This won't work for DSC Qolsys or DMP since the wireless devices use spread spectrum technology for communication.

He thinks that by the time he gets to the keypad or alarm system he can defeat it. Sorry buddy... unless you have the code for the alarm system that signal has already been sent. I don't care what you do with the keypad or alarm system at that point .. the alarm signal has already been sent. It doesn't matter in the slightest how far away from the entry the keypad is...

Not sure how old this is. When I was doing alarm response, the most common alarm we responded to was loss of connection, and cutting power took about 48 hours because they have battery backup. There was a crew that would trip main breakers and come back on the 3rd day- if power was still out that meant the alarm was dead and the home owner was away and either couldn’t be contacted or didn’t have anyone looking after the place to turn it back on… until one day when it meant that we were on to them and waiting in the back yard.
