How secure is your Wi-Fi connection at hotels?

Jim Stickley spent some time in Cancun with the folks over at the Today Show to give everyone a quick reminder of how easy it is for cyber criminals to spoof hotel wi-fi access points. This video is not a tutorial, just some basic info to warn the general public.

How are you getting around encryption and actually viewing the screens? There is much more to this then just having someone join a rouge hot spot.

Probably transparently proxying http to https. The client connects to the proxy via http (allowing the information to be sniffed) and then re-connects via https to the bank/store/whatever web site. So, basically taking advantage of users who don't think to type https before URLs and confirm that the connection is encrypted.

He’s not. He likely has tools that allow him to read what’s goi g on in raw packets. Doesn’t mean Wireshark. I mean there’s software out that will allow you to parse/decrypt packets. Keep in mind that EVERYTHING network/tech related is based on a standard.
