Perfect video!! Thank you! I just combined a queen right colony with what I think was a colony with a new queen poorly mated.

I have a nuc with a new healthy laying queen. I want to replace an old queen in one of my mature hives. When i introduce the new queen to the mature hive i ahould do so by catching her and putting her in a queen cage with some attendants correct? Also, r the best attendants young house bee’s? Many thx Dave fr WV & SE OH

I had European Foulbrood. It’s been years since do I need to destroy the hive it was in even though I haven’t had bees in those years?

Minute 12:00 A 3 pipe system has been designed to use the byproduct of 1 head as the means to condition the next. Its not nearly as popular and a good bit more extensive. Minute 18:00 Cleaning... pour some 30% vinegar into the vondensate pan of the head as a means to clear scum out of the condensate line. Ideally you are drained using gravity rather than a pump but in either case, its a good prevention measure.

My queens must be confused because approximately 65-70 % of the time I find them on frames that you say would never see the queen on.

Keith, As usual, your videos are quite informative even for experienced beekeepers like me. It is obvious that you are a “beekeeper” and not a “person who just keeps bees.” Keep up the good work and maybe you could share your experiences with introducing queens of one variety into a queen-less colony of another variety. Example: I’ve introduced Saskatraz or Carniolan queens into colonies comprised of mostly Italians. In many instances the colony kills the queen while she’s still in the cage. Thanks for your excellent videos.

Very nice video about combining hives and “scenting.” Concerning the bees congregating on the back at the old entrance area. A method I use for great airflow is to staple 1”x2” strips of 1/8” thick plastic sign board material in each corner of the telescoping cover. Using old political signs is one way to put them to some good use. That way, you can close off the vent notch if needed and the hive still has great airflow on lol four sides. I staple these plastic strips on all of my covers and they do not fall off.

Just recheck your information there buddy. Slightly incorrect. But i like your photage 👍 The Nasonov pheromone is released by worker bees to orient returning forager bees back to the colony. When a bee stings, she releases an odor called an alarm pheromone to alert others to the danger. This alarm pheromone smells like bananas and attracts other bees to come to the defense of the hive.

Best done in a honey flow to aid acceptance, feed can be given if no flow to help

I would like to see a video of how the bees get syrup from the can. Is there a hole in the bottom of the can? If so, what stops the syrup from draining out onto the hive below?

What if you end up trapping many of the robbers inside once you add the screen?
@janeschoonover84643 ай бұрын
I actually had to do this, I could not stop the robbing even with the screen and in desperation closed the hive up. After 3 days, I opened it to find my bees and the robbers happily playing house together and they have done fine.

In your opinion, what time of year in Colorado, zone 5b, is it too late to expect a queen to get mated. This year has been interesting as far as weather goes. I realize it's late in the year, is there still hope or would I be better off combining my hives?

Could a dolly be used to move hives 300 feet after a trip to the destination? Or would the tilt of the dolly be bad while going over terrain? (I'd use a dolly with pneumatic /air-filled tires.)

Question. If a colony that has been infected with EFB, cured by treating with antibiotics, and becomes immune to EFB and AFB alike… 9:09. Are people not able to pay for a sample of EFB to proactively immunize their colonies via that treatment?

how to release the queen from those sorts of queen cages was just the info I was looking for. I'll be sure to remove that cork. I couldn't be sure if it was cork or candy in that plug. I've only had the queen for one day; so no harm.

I'm new to this and have a cutout 4 swarms and a nuc. They seem to be addicting. I can never seem to find her although I can see larva and brood in some hives others I don't see anything. I seem to always find her on videos but not my hives any ideas? I go slow and have tried each hive a few times days-weeks apart.
