Congratulations Ben, I’ve ’liked’ them all and binge watched them over two days, I did the trek in 2016, living only 4 miles from St Bees id like to to it again East to West so I’ll always be heading home.

How do we find out where the campsites are .Is there a list some where?
@benhikescamps6 күн бұрын
In my South Downs Way series on my channel, I try to show or display site names. The A-Z OS map book has them displayed with a blue tent symbol along the marked route. Also just try some Google searches. Hope that helps. Thanks.

I realise that this is an old video but just by chance I was wondering if you still use the bag in question or have purchased something else. I purchased one many years ago and rooted it out last year for a bit of winter camping. I camped at about 1 degrees c and found it ok. It's not a light bag and wanted to know how it compares to modern bags.
@benhikescamps7 күн бұрын
Hi John. Yes, I still use that very bag for winter camping - even after all these years. I’ve hardly ever been cold in it and have used it in cold temperatures. Yes, it’s perhaps not as light as newer sleeping bags but it still works for me. Hope that helps. Ben

@ Thanks Ben, I think I will stick with it. I bought it in a sale for a really cheap price so I can’t grumble.

It does make me smile when people say surviving for 24 hours.
@benhikescamps8 күн бұрын
Why?
@henchy3rd8 күн бұрын
@@benhikescamps To me, surviving is to forage for food. I lasted four days in Scotland on berries, trout & a pigeon.. I was that hungry, my arse was slapping at the ground🤣 If you take food with you, you are basically camping.

I called it Surviving on Mystery Military Food because I was eating military food and I didn't open it until I arrived. The video was about just using military food in an unknown location.

Great to see you back out for a good old fashioned camp in the woods Ben😊🏕🙌. The ration pack was a fun idea, even if some items looked questionable 😂. Beans and sausage the worst? Great little adventure. Certainly a wind-down from your c2c epic. Ration packs are a fun option. Just dont eat a 24hr pack in one evening. A mate of mine did that.....bad idea. Choc pudding in choc sauce is the best. Biscuits brown are the best snack. Cheers.

@eugenedarvell847010 күн бұрын
Top tip . you don’t need a fire to start up British military ration packs.. are use flameless heating bags requires a small bit of water inside heating pads. You put the MR in it and it cooks it to treat for a 12 day camp in August all the time no problems you leave it.. if you put afterwards if you put the food patch in a reflective bag and keep it hot even longer
@benhikescamps9 күн бұрын
Yes, I've used those flameless heater bags before but didn't get any included with this MRE plus I just wanted to use my Firebox to be honest. Thanks for watching.

Great video Ben, it looks like the biscuit was broken in transit mate, I usually use the jam to spread on it, maybe use a “drop” of hot sauce in the meals to boost them up, I say a drop because that stuff is nuclear 😂 the lemon drink is known as screech as previously mentioned because if you put too much in you end up needing to shave your tongue 😂 sleep wise I think comes down to practice, it’s different sleeping in the woods under a tarp than in a tent with the nightlife kicking off all around you. Hot chocolate is awesome, I add two sugars in it too when on night operations, buzzing of my tits but it keeps me awake.😂 Also you can add the hot chocolate to a cold 2 litre bottle of water, awesome boost in hot weather 👍🏻 Keep safe and I look forward to the next video 🤙🏻👊🏼

You've missed being in the woods? Not as much as I've missed you filming in the woods. I know your channel is "hikes and camps" but I prefer your camps if I am brutally honest, Ben. An axle in the middle of nowhere. Love it 😆 Pindi Chana is the devils work. No meat. Bleurgh! KFS set, tissue and bag are for when you want to leave no trace in the morning for ablutions. Either dig a hole with spoon or place 'it' into the bag and carry away 🤣 A shame about your sleep, Ben. Hope you caught some shut eye back in the real world. Enjoyed 😉👍🏼

@moyahaigh9593 naw not really there was just a veggie component...Still it was an entertaining back to basics video and as someone who served in the British Miltary for 14 years 1990/92 then 96/10 it's very interesting to see how these rations changed over the years (I remember food in tins and folks complaining because 24 hour rations had 'nothing but sweeties in!' Also fun to see the difference a few degrees of longitude makes to the length of the day...I live near the NW coast of Northern Ireland about 8 miles from the Atlantic ocean
