sounds good ya there's always air in the engine when it's been drained and you have to run it and shut it down a bunch of times for the air to work out if you just run it the engine will overheat but you were in a situation where you needed the engine to run in order for breakin. 72 oldsmobile supreme and 75 delta convert over here in dedham

Do you have any videos on how you completed the firewall block off plate for the vintage air?
@borgtriestofixit6 ай бұрын
I don't, unfortunately. But i remember it wasn't too hard. When looking from the engine side of the firewall, I used the drill to make the two holes on the left upper and lower corners bigger as the instructions directed. Then the two bolts on the right hold in the block off plate, and the two bigger holes on the left hold the unit inside the car. To put the bolts in that hold the unit, I needed help - one person to hold up the unit inside the car and one person in the engine bay feeding in the bolts. Hope that helps!
@duncanmacrae63847 ай бұрын
I like the Zip tie idea to hold up the exhaust up temporarly.
@ronniephillips40128 ай бұрын
Those extra holes in your rotor is for bolts you can screw in and pop them loose.
@onlywenilaugh65899 ай бұрын
Many newer cars have the screw in calipers now days, at least on the back.:) That's how you also reset the emergency brake on the Sky and Solstice.

I was actually hoping to get my Chevelle a 12 bolt rearend (8.875) and change out the gears and turn it to a posi . But...the rear end i came accross, was already set up with a posi and 4.11 gear, so im happy with that. But, i skip the adventure of the set up, oh well, maybe someday.

I'm a pro-mechanic and have assisted other mechanics with this process. I myself have only done 1, and it was more of a side bearing replacement and shim set up. But all in all i think you did pretty good in setting it all up!

@borgtriestofixit9 ай бұрын
I believe the chevy axles all have the c-clips, while the BOP(Buick-Olds-Pontiac) use the bolts behind the drums to retain them
@daveduckworth18004 ай бұрын
not true..BOP can be C-Clips also...Depends on the application. Most passenger car axles are C-Clip starting in 1973.@@borgtriestofixit

seems like you did a lot of work for pinion depth. i measure the original pinion depth before removing it, then use the original shim that's on it and start from there. most of the time depth is off a couple thousand so i match it and done.

I recently did all this for a bad waterpump. The chain thing is fairly normal too. They make an updated timing cover access port that also does the job of that bolt, as the bolt holding the guide in is to blame for these failures. Easy easy to replace that. The waterpump, not so much.
@RozsaAmplificationLLC24 күн бұрын
tell me about it. was going to do it myself (water pump - overheating), but then when i saw all the work and tool needed...umm, no. Cost me like $2200 or 2400 or something! Hurt my wallet, but no way i was going to do it.

@rick343 Жыл бұрын
Just remember after about 20 thousand miles you will have a open diff again unless you replace the clutch pack, don't know what you paid, but I think I'm going to spend a little more and get the Torsen diff, works the same as one with the clutch pack, but doesn't have a clutch pack, or any parts that will have to be replaced because of wear. I almost went with the Yukon, but I didn't like the idea of slowly loosing the posi because of clutches being worn smooth, the Torsen uses steel worm gear that still does the limited slip but doesn't wear out. You're doing great though, and you can be proud of the job you're doing.
