I recently did all this for a bad waterpump. The chain thing is fairly normal too. They make an updated timing cover access port that also does the job of that bolt, as the bolt holding the guide in is to blame for these failures. Easy easy to replace that. The waterpump, not so much.

tell me about it. was going to do it myself (water pump - overheating), but then when i saw all the work and tool needed...umm, no. Cost me like $2200 or 2400 or something! Hurt my wallet, but no way i was going to do it.

@@RozsaAmplificationLLC its been 14k miles since I did the work with 0 issues. Waterpump update/chain guide bolt update bullet proofs this engine, particularly on the LE5 2.4

How many miles on it at time of timing chain guide failure? When you did the waterpump did you also replace the thermostat and the gaskets on the coolant transfer pipe that runs from thermostat housing under/behind exhaust manifold and into waterpump?

It had 96K when the timing chain failed. I did not change the thermostat and gaskets because they had already been changed about 3K miles ago according to the paperwork I have

Did you have any compression? This happened to me but I have no compression on all 4 cylinders.

Yes I had compression, so I got to it before the timing chain jumped and damaged the valves
