NAVY?! Navel personal NEVER PUT FOOT ON LAND IN VIETNAM! I was an infantryman with the 101st Airborne Division. In the thick of the jungle fighting! There was not one single naval person, whoever fought in Vietnam! Nor was there any Air Force personnel who fought on the ground in Vietnam. It was army and Marine Corps. There were a handful of navy seals, but that was less than 40 total. So what did the Navy people do in Vietnam? They stayed on aircraft carriers, and supply ships offshore! I wish these navy people in Air Force people would stop lying! They did serve our country, but from several miles out at sea! Sir, please tell us what you did that you consider yourself a combat veteran? Because it did not happen!

I was a grunt in Vietnam for one year. Marines got a fucked up deal ! They were pushed beyond reason! Those poor guys didn’t have a chance. They joined! In the army, we were drafted! We respected the Marines, but we did not understand why they Uner to serve six years in a war that we all knew was a complete fraud on behalf of our government.

Chuck, that was a beautiful, heartfelt tribute to your brother. I know John would be so proud of you. I’m sure he never imagined his little brother would become such an eloquent spokesman and advocate for our fallen vets. You sure took me down the path of that tragic day and I had a good cry. Yes, life goes on but anyone who had the good fortune to know John, a one of kind, funny as heck guy, will surely say he was “unforgettable!” Keep doing what you do Chuck. Now you have become the HERO for all of those men and women names that are on the wall. Sandi Barry Wilkinson

I am sorry that you experienced abuse from American citizens after you served in Vietnam. What the Vietnam vets experienced when they came home was horrible. You all deserved a heroes welcome. I do not know if you knew my dad. He graduated in 1965 from El Rancho. His name was Bill Ctibor. He loved Pico Rivera and El Rancho. He talked often about his friends that were killed in Vietnam. He talked about Vietnam more than usual the few months before his death in February. It was as though that time in his life was on his mind more than usual. I know there was not a day that went by that he did not think about Vietnam. I have immense gratitude for all the men that served in Vietnam, especially those that died serving our country. Thank you for your service. Thank you for sharing your experience and your friends experiences. My dad would have absolutely loved that his friends are being honored. BTW, you seem much younger than 76.

Thank you for serving our country. Thank you for sharing this story about your classmates that sacrificed their lives serving in Vietnam. My dad, Bill Ctibor, graduated with you. My dad passed away from a heart attack on February 17, 2024. Just a few months ago. He would have loved seeing his friends be honored. My dad traveled to Washington D.C. and visited the walls. He found each of his friend's names and copied them using a pencil onto a piece of paper. He got the papers laminated. We had the papers with the names displayed at his funeral. He talked about his friends that died in Vietnam often. He was a junior high and high school teacher for 37 years. He would bring in his El Rancho yearbook into his classes each year and talk about his friends that died. He put stars around each of their pictures in the yearbook and he wrote "HERO" by each of their names. Vietnam took away my dad's youth. It took away the carefree innocence of youth for the young men that served in Vietnam. The men from Pico Rivera that died in Vietnam will not be forgotten. Their stories live on because their classmates, family, and loved ones have shared their stories. Thank you for continuing to serve by helping others and educating others.

Please keep telling your brother’s story . It is our history and our children need to know the ultimate price these young men paid .I believe my uncle Richard tapia knew your brother . My uncle was also 173rd Airborne . I also promise these young men’s story will always be part of my Memorial Day lesson . I teach in ERUSD and a graduate of ER class of 1982 .

Thank you for telling your brother's heroic story. My dad never forgot John. My dad's name was Bill Ctibor. My dad and mom both attended the party that you talked about. It was their first date. My dad passed away this past March. He put stars around John's yearbook picture from El Rancho and wrote "hero" by his name. I grew up hearing about John, Richard, and the other young men from El Rancho that sacrificed their lives in Vietnam. John's sacrifice will not be forgotten.
