I did my 06 avalanche first time doing this it wasn’t too bad I removed both crossmembers the trans one and the one under the engine’s oil pan and lowered the jack under the trans all the way and it was so easy to get to the bolts just use a swivel socket with electrical tape wrapped around it so it wont wobble all over the place when you have the socket on it.

I have done this several times now, extension is best to bend that bracket out of the way. I position it behind the exhaust, up against the front of the bracket, then brace the socket on the top part of the transmission. It's one of those things, hard to explain but jiggle it enough it will pop free. It is much easier going back on.

You can think it's a scam, but selling the pieces individually is actually a benefit most companies won't give you. A cast reproduction bellhousing for a stock application is typically $400. A lakewood SFI scattershield is $700. If you genuinely think that this custom application, low demand, specialty bellhousing with custom spec clutch fork is overpriced at $465 ... then we'll never see eye to eye. However, ... dual drilled pattern, that's a great idea! If it didn't cause oblonged holes or compromised the integrity of the flange, that would be a killer option!

The reason the headgaskets blow is because of the exhaust cross over pipe getting hot on the driver side right behind the head, notorious spot for exhaust leaks, where they come together.
