Is this the same cb1100 that you removed the engine? I would love a detail breakdown of mods on the bike
@tomscyclerecycling8242
@tomscyclerecycling8242 7 ай бұрын
Yes it is. Mods included an 1123 big bore kit in the rebuilt engine, 2012 CBR600RR swingarm, 1992 VFR750F forks and calipers, new custom wiring harness, GPS speedo, digital tach, relocated battery box, new seat, superbike bars, and much more. It's a very fun bike to ride now.

I have a drive way full of bikes I bought each family member through the last 50 years; and ended up with each of them back when they could get them running again; a new guy moved in across the street and cannot get that steel spacer tube pressed back inside; after installing the spring and washer. I do not remember ever having the same issue when changing out different length front fork tubes to adjust handling / cornering; but it has been 1 1/2 to over 2 decades since I have done this task. Any Idea why he is having this problem; I gave him four different shop service manuals for various bikes; but figured the shop service manuals I had for my track bike; a 2009 Buell 1125R to get a general idea. His steel tubes like the one you put in during this video; is a good 8 - 10" long, and no matter how hard or how big of a guy tries; it still sticks out a good 4 - 6", and there is no chance of putting the top cap nut on it; something isn't right; however, I have never owned a 2001 Yamaha V-Star 650cc bike before. Addendum: It has been since 1986 when I replaced my front tube's with 4" over forks on my 1st new HD 1100cc Sportster Custom while stationed in Germany; and 15 years since I put 2" over front fork tube on my second new 1999 HD Softail Night Train, ( Which I still ride today ), when not toting around ole girl on a 2011 HD Road Glide Ultra. Any insights would be appreciated; the good new story is; I told him; it is only difficult the first time .. lol, like most every thing.

Like Jerry W Davis mentions (2 years ago) how to do you properly remove the caliper from the bike? and how to do so without spilling brake fluid everywhere?
@tomscyclerecycling8242
@tomscyclerecycling8242 Жыл бұрын
It's best to use a syringe to empty the master cylinder of all the fluid and with the bleeders open (and a clear tube over the bleeder going into a jar) pump out the remaining fluid that's in the lines and calipers. Then carefully loosen the banjo bolt and have a rag ready to wrap around the brake hose. It's going to want to drip, so use a piece of duct tape to hold the rag around the banjo fitting. Up above, make sure to have a damp towel covering the tank and anything else that you might accidently drip fluid on when you drain the master cylinder.

Once it's set up and working as intended, it will start faster, won't have the typical cold start issues after sitting for a few weeks, and will probably make a little more power.

@@tomscyclerecycling8242 The front brake on my 1993 FXLR has been dragging really bad and I’d have to stop and loosen the bleeder to relieve pressure. I followed your instructions and pulled the handle looking for an air bubble from the pressure release hole and got nothing. Then using a guitar string (g string to be exact) I cleaned out the pressure release hole and pulled on the handle. It might sound strange but I’m happy to say I was squirted with brake fluid. I was thinking I need to take it apart and rebuild but I think it’s good now. Great video, sir.

The wider end of the spring goes in first, with the rubber cap/seal in the narrow end. You'll see a hole in the steel cap on the narrow end. That lines up with the little rubber nub on the inside of the seal.
