How refreshing to find fellow engineers who ended up doing internet stuff. How can I reach you to get advice on my niche - I build ai companions, in a software engineer/computer scientist / data scientist / web dev , and an ai architect is my usual title when I work with companies as a c2c contractor. I’m competing with sleazy sites which is fine; I build whatever people want, but also am ready to scale to take more c2c that need knowledge transfer bots and stuff like that, or ai companions for each employee using python automation and other stuff etc etc. anyhoo wondering what you’d do to come up on global searches for these kinds of services. I have a few websites so I can capture different audiences and maybe there are things I haven’t thought about.

Damn, so much nostalgia. It is pleasant and unexpected to see Victor talking with an American in the USA. And understand that Victor is now in the USA. And that Victor is still as good as ever)

I've been following Income School for about 8 years now. There was a time when they where the go-to channel for SEO and blogging. Now, they don't have any new successful sites. They keep churning out content on KZbin talking about people's sites because they don't have any of their own. OK, I get it, they have the cook for folks blog, but that's nothing to write home about in my opinion. If you look at the number of posts and compare it with the number of page views they're getting, nothing special. I used to love Income School back when Jim was there as well. And I realised Jim was the guy doing real things on the channel since ever since he left the content on their channel became low-effort. I appreciate what I learned from Income School, and I did learn a lot, but at this time they're teaching stuff without having anything to show for.

As a rank civilian - the last time I did anything like putting a computer together was in the '90s - who actually does have fairly good to better than average diagnostic skills, and who always prided myself on being able to find almost anything on the internet, that's no longer true. Okay, I did do HTML - self-taught using what's her name's book - I think that's the same one who's cat caught his tail in the printer. No damage done except for the cat's ego and the continued health and well-being of the human slave. I did howl for quite a long time at the description, though. I've described my google/duckduckgo search returns as exercises in futility and frustration. The awesomeness of the internet from the days where we were leaving dial-up behind and could use descriptors instead of mile long urls that you had to type in by hand in exacting fashion, are gone the way of the dinosaur. Now, you type in what you're looking for, and who knows how many search results are predicated on buying stuff? I used to be able to find nearly anything on the www, and I was really good at refining searches until the results I wanted and needed popped up. Now: search engines tell me what I'm looking for, and no amount of rearranging search terms or substitution of terms for synonyms will dissuade the search engine from telling me what I was looking for. Presumably, I'm too stupid to know what it is I really want. Here's an example from just a few minutes ago. I'm looking for incense from a reputable dealer that buys quality product. I asked a friend who she uses, and she IM'ed me "Leatha's in Covington," which I presume means a shop named Leatha's, and the only Covingtons I know of are in Kentucky and Virginia. My friend is in Arizona. Nowhere near the search results I wanted. Do you want to know how many dead Leatha Covingtons and Hollises, and Jacksons there are in the world, as well as their obituaries and find-a-grave pages? Give me a little time, and I can break it down for you. So now I get to spend as much time as I used to spend typing in URLs into the search bar trying to neck down what I'm looking for, and in this day and age, there's no guarantee I'll ever find it. The Moody Blues had a song about that.

👍 Yep. Ultimately, it's a combination of factors. With an over abundance of luck, we can get by without as much of the other stuff. But focus and hard work can go a long way, even for the unlucky. 😉

Spencer is right. We have invested our time to learn SEO and build sites. Now the problem is that we are way behind our old fellows and Google has pressed us to like zero. Now we have to start from scratch like 9-5 jobs 😅 this is just insane

Not sure what comments you mean. Maybe you’re thinking of the other part? Most interviews are 2 parts

Despite getting crushed (myself included) and the state of the SERPs generally, I think the recent batch of updates are a good thing. There were too many people in my niche who were just writing content and not actually doing anything in the space. They were just bloggers. They didn't play guitar or make music. Or there certainly wasn't any evidence of them doing either of those things judging by their content. It was a common practice to outsource all of your articles to some crappy Upwork writer from a foreign country who didn't care, and then use a bunch of stolen images - or in the best case scenario - stock images to pad out the blog posts. Honestly, good riddance. There were people who had 10 websites on 10 different topics. How on earth were these people living 10 different hobbies or niches at the same time? I barely have time for 1. The answer is they weren't.
@RankingRevolutionPodcastАй бұрын
I agree with your points, but I think google threw out the baby with the bath water. There was a lot of bad content. Virtually no small sites made it through these updates.
@andrewsiemonАй бұрын
Absolutely. I had an excel sheet of my main 40 competitors and none of them survived. The one that did has one of the worst UX I’ve ever seen. Makes no sense.

So, who trusts Google these days?
@CibusMissionАй бұрын
It messed up my google ads bad! as an NPO we depend on the google ad grants just to get a few people to see us. OMG! I could never get a hold of them, they said that my "enhanced conversion had issues" and I had to pay fiverr to fix it! When I call them, they refused to pass me to anyone who can answer simple ANY questions, NONE!! They said, "Oh you get Google ad grant, that is another department and we can't answer any of your questions" Now I got the google enhanced conversion fixed and still have it at 1 -5 clicks PER DAY! UGH, I have no idea what to do. I went from spending the max $329 to $5!!! UGH and I'm so tired now.

Wait a minute. Why interviewing Ricky Kesler? What does he know about ranking websites? Have you checked his websites rankings? I have. It's pathetic. Think again before you choose a guest, or you'll be embarassing yourself.
@DougCunningtonАй бұрын
I'm really hard to embarass here on KZbin. :) BUT Hey Alexis, check out the interview. It's not a how to build a site video...it's an interview about how the industry has changed. I think this interview is super valuable, especially with the drama out there.
