My father grew up on pine ridge. Two years ago I went and seen where he is buried. It always fills my heart with so much joy to hear my father’s native language. And I’m happy to start learning myself.

I wish I could have taken his classes. He’s very interesting. The Alaska story was fascinating. I was thinking 5hey went up to what is now glacier national park in Montana. I lived in Montana for a few years and it’s cold as hades there. But I like the cold.

I found myself wanting to hit the thumbs up repeatedly and thank you ma'am. This needs to be a National Treasure video in the Library of Congress if it isn't already.

I stopped the video. Seeing Sitting Bull's photo, he noticed that the lady looked exactly like Sitting Bull. The eyes, the face, everything. Could he be Sitting Bull's great-grandson?

Bless you dear Lady. Please could you help me. I am a French/English woman, 73 years old. Always had a heart for the Native Indian Tribes. I would like to know, if I originated from Montana, Whitehall area, in 1800s, what would the Indian Language Name for me: Steadfast/Standing for Truth&Justice, for Good&Right (correct). I cannot manage to use the few dictionary facilities on the internet, very difficult because Native languages are SO different from English, or any other language. Native Languages are SO beautiful, SO unique! Can you let me know? Thank you so much, Lady Teacher. Blessings in the Creator, Line-Marie Glyde❗🌹

As a non-indigenous American who has learned his own ancestral language, I can identify with these learners of their ancestral Sioux language and wish them continued success. It's terrific.

Still my favorite recipe to this day. The only tweak I made is increasing the salt in the dough (2%) since it was low here. It helps balance out the sugar and fat, especially if you choose to use lard. Just sharing.✌ ❤ 🥙

What I see from the comments is very sad. The Americans forced the children to forget the Native American languages by beating them. Unfortunatelly it was the case in Poland. The Germans during the II WW used to beat many Polish children for speaking Polish. How sad is the similarity between the history of Poland and the Lakota nation.

hey are known as Sičhą́ǧu Oyáte (in Lakȟóta) -Sicangu Oyate-, Sicangu Lakota, or "Burnt Thighs Nation". Learning the meaning of their name, the French called them the Brûlé (literally, "burnt"). The name may have derived from an incident where they were fleeing through a grass fire on the plains.

My name is Mercedes White Calf, I was raised in Oregon but my mom is a full-blood Oglala Sioux from Pine ridge, SD. She is walking the blue road with Wakan-tank-kah (Creator/Great Spirit) now. I miss her so much. She tried to teach me the language growing up but I didn't make much time for it. I was dumb. I regret it every day. But now I look for videos like this. I am grateful for this teacher! #LakotaWinyan

Yes, using yeast we call it “the cheater, white mans frozen bread dough is all you really end up with” original recipe never used yeast. Baking power is used as the rising agent because back in the day the “Commodities” the government gave us didn’t include yeast. There is difference in taste and as a fry bread vendor myself, I don’t use it. It takes much more skill with creating the tender dough to rise. We never deep fry it like here either. We got lard in commodities too and the bread was pan fried is a small amount of lard fat or bacon grease resulting is bread that was not greasy to the touch like it gets when it’s deep fried. Made the old, traditional way the bread rose up as high and even as biscuits. Taste is everything. Nothing beats the traditional ways, and you get healthier bread too.
