Thanks for the video! I fixed the swinging tension arms (when unit is turned on) by replacing the belts and general clean up and lubrication. That issue is fixed. Now the tension arms do not keep swinging when the unit is turned on. However, tension arms do not move outwards when the unit is turned on. A gentle nudge on the arms make them move outwards though. What could be the reason for this?

Technics SV D1000 Recorder with 32 segment flourecent LED display per channel. Yes, that is amazing! I first thought that this is a cassette deck, as it is not clearly mentioned here in the title. But after reading the video uploader's footnotes i found out that this is a DAT (Digital Audio Tape) Deck. DAT Decks are rare to find these days as its popularity faded away. Sorry about the late comment.

That was the one I wanted to buy in 1983.... but the Philips CD100 was cheaper and exactly the same (apart from the colour). I still have that CD100 player, in working condition, almost 40 years later!

L'idiot qui utilise le lecteur ne sait même pas qu'on ne doit pas faire d'avance ou recul pendant l'écoute d'un morceau. I've never seen such a bad Hi-Fi video. It makes no sense to test the sound quality of an open reel tape deck as spectacular as this Akai GX-747, if it is recorded on tape, Maxell even more so a poor MP3 file played from a poor smartphone. Ideally, record from a Long Play or Compact Disc to really appreciate the sonic magnificence of open-reel tape.

I am sure it sounds amazing and is worth owning, but to call it ultra high-end, is properly a bit out there. :-) I think you would have a hard time to get even a single interconnect in ultra high-end to that price, or a one shelve rack. $100,000 is where the cheap ultra high-end starts, i.e. a small DAC.

I have exactly the same SL110+SME3009 set-up lying now in a baseement corner as the turntable speed became eratically unstable some 20 years ago. I just wonder if it's at all possible to get it properly fixed by changing the motor or maybe the servo mechanism...
