SONY TC-765 is the Real Legend!

...this model look so cute but it's real hidden beast in term of sound quality and terchnical excecution.
Only very few machinen can play part on it's level!
One of my most favourite R2R forever!

I remember seeing the Stereo Review bench test for this machine and they were even better than advertised. Revox A-700 wow/flutter @ 7 1/2 ips was .08%. Sony 765 was .04% @t 7 1/2 ips. Freq response of Revox was 30hz - 22k +-2/-3db. Sony advertised as 30 - 25K and was actually better than that per Stereo Review. SN ratio for Revox was better than -66 @ 7 1/2 ips. Sony advertised 61 db but tested better than that and I can't recall that number so it requires more research. Overall, the decks are about equal IMO on playback. The Revox A-700 tape handling may be better/faster.

Hi Ondrej, this is my first ever post on KZbin. And you and the Sony TC-765 are the culprits ;) Happy to see that there is high regard for this reel-to-reel player. Otherwise, I would assume that I ended up with a heap of worthless junk. I was looking for a nice reel-to-reel player and since last summer, I was able to find two (quite a coincidence) Sony TC-765 players on some estate auction sales. The price was good but unfortunately I was not able to test them during the auctions. Sadly both players ended up with issues, but reading the reviews and watching demos like yours, I set up my mind to restore them both. I am currently looking for youtube movies from people who took this path so I should have an idea how to prepare and execute this project properly. I was wondering if you too had to go through the restoration process of your TC-765 or whether it was in good playable condition when you bought it. Is there a way to contact you somehow, other than through youtube? Sorry, as mentioned, this is my first post on youtube LOL. Thanks!
