EAF does not produce the same good quality of steel, such as steel made from pig iron and iron ore. Scrap steel is full of all sorts of junk. (rubbers, plastics, wood, other non ferrous metals)

THis is the good news we need to be hearing. "What about [countries who won't go NetZero]?" - the future for them is being excluded from supply chains, and early adopters reaping the benefits of going first. One of the major benefits of NetZero *for us* is that it's intrinsically local. We're going to have to have jobs, feedstocks, supply chains and entire production here. 'Going green' is a massive lottery depending on how lucky a country is for renewable supplies. Fire up the 'Global Wind Atlas' and look at how lucky the UK is compared to our side of the planet!

Very Interesting, am I right in thinking that the E.F. will only be utilized to melt scrap steel, it's not a replacement for the oldblast furnaces that made steel from raw materials. If this is the case in the future will steel making in the Uk will essentially be a recycling process, not suggesting this is any less envolved, but someone somewhere will still have to make steel from raw materials. Also what sort of electrical power will be needed to run this new furnace.

Very interesting for an outsider to the industry to hear this side of the story (i.e., the positive side). It does sound like exciting investment with benefits for the UK and (so far as is possible) the environment. I'm perhaps naive on this - so apologies to those who are suffering due to changes at the plant. I hope these investments offer those affected something at least...

Thank you! Great to hear you're enjoying these videos and updates. You're right, there is a an exciting and most importantly, a sustainable future ahead, but we are ensuring all those affected in our current workforce as well as those in the local community, contractors and other stakeholders are supported. Affected employees have been offered a generous voluntary redunancy package, there is an outplacement programme in place which looks at retraining opportunities, career changes and qualifications, funding for new businesses and so on. Let us know if you need any more information. And please let us know if there's anything you'd like to see on our page in the future!

Tata steel pay 16 an hour for skilled tradesmen. Do not compromise your skills to serve a company that as no interests in your well being
@ironknobsteelworks40632 ай бұрын
That's fantastic for tatasteel. But....as a human being you have a limited time on this earth to maximise your potential. This company currently pay 16 an hour for an approved electrician. Currently electricians earn 22+ an hour. Why would you as a tradesman compromise your earning potential to serve " the greater good". Look after yourself and not " the company"

I am sorry but Tata Steel will no doubt pay the 'market wage' in the Port Talbot area - whatever that is. I spent the best part of 15 years working 'just down the road' at Aberthaw Power Station - as you will be aware that has 'gone' - there are a number of videos on KZbin which explore the now desolate site - it is sad & very unfortunate for those who are personally involved, but I suppose it is called 'progress' Best wishes for the future

The UK is short of electricians, solar panels, EVSEs and heat pumps demand a lot of electrician time. No doubt Tata pay the going rate for South Wales there will be more money to be made in the South East but your housing costs and beer will be a lot more expensive.
