Does the score include alternate parts for the Eb/Alto parts? I would love an alternate part to alto as I sadly don't know anyone who plays it :/

Given the range of the part, the only feasible substitution would be basset horn, if you have access to one of those?

I can't begin to explain all the good feelings around this piece and performance: the memories I have with Joe that inspired it, his gift in writing it for me, and the opportunity to perform a movement with him in our former high-school for friends and family... Thank you so much Joe for your unconditional friendship and pushing me to be a better musician. 🔶

Bit of fun backstory; Alex shared this piece with Joe and me this spring and made the mistake of joking when we would perform it. Well, anyone who knows Joe wouldn't be surprised he took this offer seriously and immediately began coordinating calendars and finding other pieces. I can't thank the two of them enough for pushing me musically and can't wait for them to put on a recital of their own. 🤫

This is just a suggestion. To avoid the constant alternation of measures, one could notate the piece in 7/4, indicating that the enphasis is on the first and fifth beats of every measure (in this case).

Thanks for the idea! I have done things like that in prior pieces (sometimes with a dotted divided line, sometimes not), but as a player I would find that more difficult to read in this case - and I also did want to make the divisions between waltz bars and tango bars obvious to allow for the slightly different rhythmic inflection these dances require!

it does lowkey ,but his main is probably either soprano bflat or pic not the low ones. Im sure he probably just learned the lower ones specifically for this performance
@TheodoreBrown314

@@Loll225 I'm actually pretty sure his main is Alto, and there's a lot of other videos on this channel of him playing low clarinets. I reckon a dodgy microphone setup probably isn't doing his playing justice

When I wrote my dissertation on Francaix's Clarinet Concerto back in 2012, it seemed like there were far fewer people performing the work. It is encouraging that, since that time, more students and professional performers seem to be performing this work. This Concerto certainly deserves far more performances. It is a gem in the repertoire, and extremely challenging but rewarding.

@@ClarkProductions118 When I was doing my research on the work, I had created a more playable version of the piano part since the piano "reduction" that Editions Musicales Transatlantique published was a hot mess. But I was not able to get permission from them to publish my arrangement. That's a sad thing because I think if it had been published, it would have made it more accessible for more students to study the work, and get pianists that could accompany them on it. But they are a French company. So go figure that they would want a monopoly on the work.
@ClarkProductions118
@ClarkProductions118 3 ай бұрын
@@WhiteCrayonComposer I also prepared a better reduction, which I think we used here if I recall correctly. They have since made and published a better reduction of their own!

Thanks! My two big pieces of advice are: 1) Write lots! It'll start off bad, but the more you write the better it gets. 2) Find people to play your pieces live! The sound and the players will give you lots of useful feedback. Consider writing for combinations that you have players for!
