Watched - and downloaded. I live way upstream but there's a slow portion next to my house that might be useful for observing...

Trout? If it was Spring, they're most likely Herring. See the fish ladder? They'll find it.

Amazing. So glad I found this. I see mussel shells on the bank of the river behind my house... I always thought it was raccoons that found them and then brought them up to the bank to nosh.

Agreed concerning the dams. Until the Old mill dam under Moody Street in Waltham or the Dam in Watertown adjacent to California Street and most important the Locks at the Science Museum are removed NOTHING is going to help make it easier for the herring to travel upstream. The locks down at the science museum are a biggest problem, but no one will ever addressed that because real estate prices would crash if they had to look at ugly mud flats and had to smell low tide. More data is needed but i guarantee that is a problem that is not going away and we all know the river would be far more cleaner if they removed it. There is also a huge predatory increase from striped bass. The striped bass population has exploded since their protection in the 50's through today. Back in the 80's we never saw any striper bass being at the Science Museum locks, BUT now you can go to the Locks and see hundreds of them cornering thousands of herring with the occasional bluefish blitz demolishing the herring until the locks are occasionally opened for boat passage. The Striped bass even chase the herring up the river continuing feeding and all the way to the Watertown Dam! Now you add to that to an increase in seal population, and increase in foreign commercial pilchard's/sardine fishing just past the 200 mile line and you have what you have in your count. So yeah, dam removal will help but it's more broad in engineering and ecology than just taking down a few dams. And if anyone tells me the recreational fisherman are part of trhe problem they can go jump in the river, there's been a ban since 2003, and that hasn't stopped the downtrend. So get a clue...

That is what the fish ladder is for on river right of the dam. The fish missed this oppertunity to make it up stream. love this river.

The entire state of Massachusetts is pavement. There's no saving it unless you unbuild and unindustrialize the entire thing. Good luck, but this is undoubtedly an exercise in futility

This is being pursued as a way to spend ARPA money, It is anti environmental and completely undemocratic.

I, of course, support the removal of dams. But, I notice that some of the dams are constructed using beautiful (granite?) stone. Is there some way to repurpose these stones? Use them in walkways or walls and fences in the enptied slack water, etc etc.
