Why is he comparing the USPHL to the OJHL? They aren't even close. OJ guys may get a sniff at NCAA D1, while even NCDC is geared towards NCAA D3 and ACHA. Besides, the OJ is considered "Tier II Jr. A" while the USPHL is basically "Tier III" hockey. By that logic, the USPHL is in line with the GOJHL... except, it isn't. It's more like the "average" teams in the PJHL. You see, I say average since the very best PJHL teams can compete with low-end GOJHL teams. Going down the rabbit hole a bit further, the GOJHL is arguably Jr. A (yes, I know it's Jr. B) so that's saying A LOT about the PJHL league. Now, since that's understood, the PJ or GO is a better place for a Canadian kid... it's probably home and WAY cheaper. One of those "no brainer" things. Only thing is: they need better US college scouting. Maybe?

Played in NAHL and USHL...Had multiple D1 offers. Last year junior I NEEDED my self medication routine pills/booze/etc. Injuries needed to be numbed, was not gonna miss a game. Heck I saw a ton of PEDs in my time playing as well. Time played late 90's. It was the Culture back then. Still had two years of eligibility left in Juniors and had a nice offer from D1 MN State. Walked away from it all in the offseason...got clean and got injuries properly taken care of.

I made it as high as the nahl In America. I think there was a ton of abuse I didn’t recognize as abusive behavior. But I dealt with a lot of racism and harassment as a black player. Loads of n words being thrown out. Seen women sexually harassed. Junior was a disgusting display of humanity and soured me on the game. I was pretty decent and good enough to make the ushl central scouting stuff and make an nahl roster after some ushl camps but, going through abusive behavior really hurt my confidence. I was a bubble Guy for division one and I’m willing to accept my failures as a player but 40% of it is down to hockeys awful Culture. Hope it’s better now this was 2011-12

this league is one or two tiers below the ushl right?
@Dranehc3 күн бұрын
USPHL Premier is 2 levels below USHL. USHL is the only tier 1 league in USA (their comparable to Canada Major Junior in my opinion, although USHL players retain NCAA eligibility. NAHL and NCDC are currently the only tier 2 leagues in USA (comparable to Jr A in Canada). NA3HL, USPHL Premier, and EHL are the tier 3 leagues in USA (comparable to Jr B in Canada). USPHL Elite, and EHL Premier are the non official tier 4 leagues in USA (comparable to Jr C in Canada).

USPHL Premier is comparable to Jr B (Jr AA in Qc) in Canada, but with high cost pay to play model. That cost is what will give players more practice ice time and an overall more professional experience than your traditional Jr B leagues. Until NCDC expands to Canada the Jr A (Jr AAA in Qc) have nothing to worry about other than maybe the GMHL and NJHL which are the weakest Jr A leagues in Canada operating under a pay to play model.

I played juniors in 2004 during the lockout and it was hard. We had whl players coming down to play, which was crazy. Junior hockey is so watered down at this point. Even the wshl when i played there put multiple players into ncaa d3 and club d1.

Sigh. Basing your NCAA DIII picks on performance alone shows your ignorance of the way college athletics works. For a DIII school to "move up" their hockey team to DI, they need to move their *entire athletic department* up to, at minimum, DII. That is a *massive* financial commitment, and one well beyond hockey. Only Utica of the schools you mentioned has even discussed this possibility. And even that has been stalled for years now. What a waste of time this video is.

My son is entering his junior year at Montclair State University (ACHA-D2) and it has been an awesome experience for him. I knew he was maturing and making smart decisions when he passed on the opportunity to play in the EHL and potentially make a lower NCAA D3 team afterwards, but told me that he knew he wasnt going pro, and wanted to find a place he could get a degree in sports management and still play competitively. The ACHA provided that, and he has a solid group of teammates, loves his classwork and even works in the rink as a skating instructor and house league coach. Im really happy to see the ACHA getting some recognition.

Played in USHL/NAHL/MJHL in late 90's. IMO there was a lot more fights in the NAHL and MJHL. Helped you could take off your half shield at 18. At 15 fighting in the MJHL (Manitoba), definitely didn't have any victories. Honestly I didn't start winning fights until I filled out 17-18 years old. Fighting is important in hockey it can bring you and your teammates together, I remember I lost a fight in the MJHL to Jordin Tootoo. I got banged up pretty bad. I didn't know what to think, but my 20 year old teammates all came up to me after the game and said good job kid..."you answered the bell." Meant a lot at the time.

A couple of caveats (not affiliated with the program at all. Just an alum who still follows them): 1. I believe we are speaking on U18 boys when talking about the national title count of 10. The school as a whole has FAR more than 10 with girls, u14/15/16 etc. probably more than 30 but I do t know the actual count. 2. A lot of mention of the prep team. Some of the best players to come through shattuck never play prep. They put multiple kids on NTDP every year from the 15/16 team. Last years NTDP18s had six players who once played at shattuck (not including celibrini for that group). Only 1 played prep (cole eiserman). The rest left after their 15 season. 3. The school always gets a lot of notoriety for the big names but imo the biggest strength of the team in terms of development is the kids from small problems who end up there and then develop into d1 players. 4. Another bragging point I guess you could say is they develop from within once you’re there for the most part. There was mention of 1 year players. Last years prep team, who beat the central mass penguins (Cushing minus 1 over ager) 10-4 at nationals, had zero kids who didn’t where the SSM jersey the year prior. I can guarantee it another prep school can say that for their top team. They all recruit year to year for their top team. Great video!!

Great video! I took engineering while playing in the OUA. Practices were always around 2-4 or 3-5 plus weight room but we had to schedule that on our own with the strength and conditioning coach. I would miss Monday and Wednesday practices but not if it was game. My coach would get the Dean of engineering to override the system and put me in a class/lab/tutorial that was full so it wouldn't conflict with practice. I had that would I had a teammate doing his PhD and would only play home games and wouldn't play away games if it wasn't a multigame road trip. Can you do a video on the CHL education package? Some of my teammates had their entire schooling covered. They took classes (online and paid for by the CHL) while still playing major junior. They had some money left over to pay for the rest of their degree and for their grad degrees. I also heard USports started giving athletic scholarship that are not grade based. My university gave you 50% scholarship if you were a varsity athlete and had a 80% average out of high school and 3.5ish (B average, different departments had different grading scales) GPA in your university classes.
