Nice garden - well done! Amazing succession planting!! We just planted some lettuce seeds in our garden - we have greens throughout the day! Very nice raised beds - we do the same! Our beets didn't grow that much - probably too much heat too! Amazing you don't have to cover your kale - ours get chewed by flea beetles so we have to cover. Another big pest for us are grasshoppers!!! We grow Blueberries as a commercial crop - we have about 2 acres and we love them alot and sell out every year - so full of good fiber! Thank you again for sharing!!! We still have our home up for sale and hoping we can sell to move to the Island as well!

Do you have any information on the brand or manufacturer of your dinghy rack? I really like the way it operates based on the footage in this video. Seems easier to use than the pull-on lifts.

Our dinghy davit system is the Hurley H3O davit system with a manual winch. Alternatively you can get an electric winch. It’s very simple and easy to use. The only downside is you must launch the dinghy to use the swim platform. Thanks for watching😎

My father's G.Grandfather Captain James Douglas Warren, came from P.E.I. in 1858 to open up the Trade Routes around Vancouver Island to the Haida Gwaii. Thank you. I wondered what it looked like. I walk on the BC ferry for free Monday to Thursday since I am a senior. The 257 bus is only $2.50 one way to downtown, so very affordable for a limited income of a senior. My friend took the harbour air seaplane to the south terminal just next to (has a free shuttle) the international airport and the sea plane also goes the downtown coal harbour Vancouver, but you have to have luggage under 20 pounds. There is no limit to how much people weight (layer on the clothes, ha ha).
@staycool123
@staycool123 20 күн бұрын
Thanks for sharing Janet. There are definitely some good options for getting to and from the island. Good to know seniors walk on free Mon-Thurs. Another option for flying is Iskwew Air from the QB airport which flies into YVR South Terminal. (It’s efficient and fun to fly!) As you mentioned there is a free shuttle to the main terminal. Thanks so much for watching😎

Such a nice retirement day out! Thx for sharing something Im not able to experience. I bet Malcolm will be taking a net next time. Was the fishfinder useful ? Must be hard to decide what equipment you can take with you. Never heard of barbless hooks, nice. Wonder if the seals were looking for scraps ? Wasnt keen on the atmospheric music when showing us the tranquil setting, Id prefer just the natural soundscape, conversely I felt the music on your return towards the setting sun was appropriate. Still have your marine radios ? - or maybe carry a couple of inexpensive FRS radios to stay in touch when you separate ?
@staycool123
@staycool123 22 күн бұрын
The fishfinder was helpful in knowing depth and finding schools of fish. Malcolm does take his net but typically does catch & release. Barbless hooks are required out in BC, especially for fishing salmon. Thanks for your feedback on music. We appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment!

@staycool123

Great idea to have bikes for those activities. E-bikes would extend your range but much heavier to lift on and off the boat. Main concerns are storage and weight. For provisioning we recommend using grocery delivery. Hope this helps and thanks for watching William!😎

Yes we are aware. Sadly it is the situation almost anywhere in Canada. In 1994, I left Ottawa, where I spent nearly half of my first 30 years. For me, winters were tolerable if I wore the right clothing, but Ottawa summers were horrid: far too hot and humid for me! I still needed to work for another 30 years, and the most temperate climate (read coolest summers) in urban Canada are in southwest B.C. I spent one year in Vancouver before moving to Victoria, where I've been ever since. In April 2022, I took early retirement, and still glad to be on the coast.

Enjoyed your video. Three questions: 1.) When backing up, did you find the thrusters adequate to guide the boat while backing into a slip, etc? 2.) At WOT, will she go 18 knots ? 3.) What is the approx. RPM,S to get the boat to plane ?
@staycool123
@staycool123 26 күн бұрын
Glad you enjoyed this episode Chuck. Answers to your questions: 1) Backing up was relatively easy. The most useful thruster is the rear thruster. 2) At WOT the max speed is about 14 knots but of course many factors influence this (wind, current, load) 3) The boat isn’t really designed to truly plane but at WOT it was at around 3500 RPMs if memory serves. Hope this helps and thanks for watching😎

@@staycool123 Thank you for answering my questions. I boat in the San Francisco Bay Area in California. I’ve been looking at Mainship due to affordability, ease of maintenance , large flybridge, and the walk around. I looked at a 34’ pretty carefully, red hull, and crawled via the stairs that swing open for engine access. I was impressed with spaciousness of engine room and ease of access to most things. This was a single yanmar 370 HP. In the San Francisco Bay we have lots of large oil tankers, large cargo ships, commuter ferries, barges, etc. They can’t stop for you, so you better stay out of their way. I need the extra power to stay clear of them. Also, we have whales coming into our bay which is a new phenomenon lately. Can you believe that ! They are hugh and bigger and wider than most yachts. So far, they are friendly but you never know. They get real close so having that reserve power to stay clear from them is vital. I had one within 10’ of my starboard bow. He rolled over looked at me then his hugh fin came out of the water. I was shocked and frightened by that incident. I believe it might have been a female because a calf was nearby. So, I need that extra power for safety reasons. I only wish I was camera ready when that whale serviced.
@staycool123
@staycool123 25 күн бұрын
We thoroughly enjoyed reading your response! We can hardly believe your incredibly close encounter with whales! Nature is amazing isn't it?! Even without a camera, you will always remember that special moment. We can understand your need for power with such a busy waterway.
