Super excited for this series… recently received my copy of CS, but likely won’t play it for a while, so am looking forward to listening to your campaign! I did enjoy the dmg meters, but don’t want to put poor Phill through the wringer for it. You guys having fun is the best part of the show!
@amdirt
@amdirt 16 сағат бұрын
Haha the only issue with the damage meters was it made people extra competitive to get big numbers and that trickled down into character choice, build choice, and it kinda made the game too competitive. Let us know when you start cs! Starting party etc would love to hear about it!

The algorithm sent me here. I played Crimson Scales solo at the start of the year, I had a lot of fun, it's an amazing accomplishment from the fan base, I'd say about 80% of the characters were really well designed. I did like all the ones you were using today. This was great to watch, hope you will carry on filming these.

It's interesting because scenario 14 for our group was very memorable in a good way. Although in hindsight it was probably because we were essentially able to "cheese" it using the Deathwalker's Deepening Despair bottom and essentially teleporting straight to the objective. After that point, I (Bannerspear) could just hold the enemies off at a chokepoint and AoE attacks. We were even able to use the remainder of the scenario to farm a fair amount of loot off the waves of pigs and eels as well as completing 2 masteries. It was the scenario we realized wow these characters have really cool unique abilities and I think it's the one that really drove my friends into really getting into Frosthaven.

Great comment, and exactly what goes through my mind whenever thinking about aspects of the game we didn't enjoy, is there's groups out there who might have a totally different experience and that's awesome. I love that this was so memorable for the right reasons for your party.

I was considering a similar set of hexagonal overlay tiles, which had the advantage of being visible when placed under the overlay tile (to maintain immersion while still displaying the identifying colour). Like these, shipping outside the USA was just too pricey. In the end I found an art shop selling individual sheets of heavy GSM paper in all the relevant colours, which I cut into 1, 2, and 3 hex tiles. Cheap as chips, sturdy enough to handle, and thin enough to place under overlay tiles without adding height.

Great list. I had a heads up from Reddit about Jagged Shoals and looked up if anyone had a rebalance - sure enough, Dwarf did. Life and Death was luckily ok for us as we both had summoning characters and the weakening didn't affect them. Plus, we were amazed that the bonkers 4th community campaign acted as a sneaky prologue to Frosthaven's endgame and super surprised that Moonshard never was evil despite the scenario effecs.

Dwarf patched the shit out of 14, so we'll always have that. Never thought about the summon factor with 61, but that does sound more appealing tbh.

Yeah the 58 rng is our last acting player finished phase 1 then room 2 opens boss heals for 14 and another 12 because the machines went earlier then them. So without any of us interacting anyway the boss is now 2 health from us losing. If it goes slow it'll heal and absurd amount if it goes fast it'll heal another 12 and possibly automatically lose the scenario at as fast as 11 initiative. The scenario is always either too easy or downright miserable. That we can have room 2 cause a loss with 0 player turns taken between finishing room 1 and losing the scenario is kind of absurd.

Relatively the same for me! I can't remember the scenario, but there was one where you have to traverse a narrow hallway and there's a huge 3-hex obstacle in the way you have to go around, but many enemies clog the only path. I brought a shovel because I thought it would be good and it literally opened up so much of the scenario for us. My friends thought it would be a joke, but power was demonstrated. It was in fact so good that one of my friends carried around the other shovel after that scenario until we both retired. We shoveled everything we could and sometimes even for no reason at all.
@amdirt

my goodness the shovel. The biggest why do we need this, until you use it and realise you could have been shovelling like every scenario.

No shade, but if you're going to rank each character you should at least have a baseline idea of how they play. Ideally you should have played them yourself so have a definitive and conclusive opinion on them rather than relying heavily on how you saw others run them.

Hey thanks for watching and the feedback. This tier list is more for fun and from a "would I like to play it / how much fun was it or does it seem" perspective. I feel like I have a good idea of how most of the characters play but probably not a good enough idea to make a detailed and accurate "most to least powerful" tier list, which there are plenty of resources out there for anyway.

It seems like one of the stronger starting classes. After picking up the double perk, you can theoretically burn 3 cards each of the first 3 rest cycles (and in the one remaining turn possibly finish on a double burn), and still go for 16 active rounds. That will do some work.

So classes are F tier if they feel too simple for you to play AND if they are too hard for you to play. That makes the whole tier list unussably biased towards your personal skill level. I didn't learn anything from this video.

4:30: I know that Isaac and the devs have talked many times about being very careful about not looking at custom class content as they don't want to have their ideas turn into "hey you just took that from a custom class". So for instance there was a contest last year to submit custom classes on the subreddit and I think Gripe/Themris said they couldn't look at any of the submissions and somebody else had to. Anyways I have no idea what the timeline is for this vs Banner Spear but Stinky could tell you I'd bet

You can often end up with a muddle but can offset some of it with the voidsight. It does give some Shackles vibes so I'm excited about Detty rolling this character. In fact, i think overall all of you guys got your perfect match, something tells me Gaz will really enjoy the Galaxy too, wink wink..

Was really cool seeing your reactions to the cards and lore etc. Hollowpact was my first design so it’s got some rough edges and complexities, but imo it’s a solid and fun class. You got a really good feel for how things are meant to fit together just from reading through it. I’d strongly recommend using the FH era update to the perks - this is a pre-jotl GH1 era design and the perk update helps smooth it out. There’s a few Cragheart throwbacks in the cards as something of an Easter egg btw - if you’ve got a CH fan at your table, see if they catch it! 😁

Also regarding the easter eggs, someone we both know may have already shared some of it (or all lol).

I only had time to do a quick skim of your video so I don't know if in discussion you mentioned that there is content gated behind the puzzle book. My group is over halfway in and we're really ticked off after discovering this because it's yet another fiddly bit that Isaac threw in that IMO is a major detraction from the game's experience. Sure, there will be a handful of people that will love to sit down and work out cyphers, but I would say that's a very small fraction of the player base. By gating content behind the Puzzle Book it almost makes our purchase decision into a regret. If he does this again in a future project, we will likely not back it.

Nice video! We are about 75% in our FH campaign now and we have not played/unlocked Kelp, Drill, Astral, Shards, Trap and Prism. After seeing you're video, would you say that this is a tier list according to power level (which are usually what tier lists are used for) or also more of a personal liking tier list? Anyway my two cents on the classes: I've played (in order): Boneshaper, Kelp, Shackles, Bannerspear (currently) Boneshaper: It seems that it has potential and I felt like it was one of the classes where I had the idea that it was strong at low levels instead of higher levels where some classes really shine (looking at you Meteor). The summons (especially skellies) seem too brittle when playing on adventure level 5/6/7. They just get eaten. Also both masteries seem like 2 of the hardest ones in the game, especialy for a starting class. For me, this class is B class to Bin.... Kelp: In our campaign, this thing was an absolute beast. I can understand people not liking the tide mechanic as much but man... Shuck is just a card that combined with Tide and 1 or 2 potions can clear an entire room. The Kelp is tanky, flexible enough and can shred through (armored) enemies. I really liked this class a lot! Our party would definetely rate it S tier. Shackles: I agree with your point that this character is really unique. The whole shenanigan thing with the status really was pulled me into this character but on playing it for several scenario's, i could not make the status thing work. It hinders you too much on the turns you dont have Delayed Malady and the setup does not equally value the rewards it gives so i think a status build for this character at higher lvl's is not feasable. The pure damage thing however... wow... this hero can shred all those rough high armored enemies like paper. Together with enormous amount of (self) heal made it that i went from 20 hp down to 5 and back to 20 multiple times in a scenario. Amazing tank, good ddmg dealer, really fun character. Agree that you put it on S tier or maybe low S. Bannerspear: Not much to add what you already said. The formation and banners are fun but nothing out of the ordinary. I built mine with enormous amount of shield and retaliate and it can frontline for days, especially since we have Snowflake in our team which gives an neverending amount of heal and protection. I would put this at a solid A. Meteor: Like you said, struggles at lower lvls to the point of being almost useless in our scenario's but since he passed lvl 5 (and gotten the hang of abusing enemy AI with hazardous terrain), the Meteor really shines. His lvl 7 and 9 cards are extremely powerful and let you roast entire rooms. Cool class and i can see why you put it S tier. Blinkblade: Absurd class, the amount of dmg, movement, flexibility while still being survivable is uncanny. Our party would put this class above everything else at SS tier. With the right items, this class is an unstoppable train. In one scenario with a boss, our blinkblade had 3 turns in which he did over 30 dmg while being lvl 7 and we play average scenario + 1. Death Walker: Really mobile class and actually helped us finish scenarios because of his ability to let us teleport through shadows. Can be a little overwhelming to play right as a starting class but quite all round. Regular A tier. Drifter: I can completely see why you put it in S. Only one of us played it and (coincidentally) retired early because of an easy quest but he felt the same as you did. There is nothing special about this class which not makes it boring specifically but you don't get the feeling of doing awesome stuff. Power level wise its Low A/high B but funwise, its at the bottom. Frozen Fist: My friend loved this class but the problem I have with this class is kinda what you described. You HAVE to play One with the Mountain or the class is just out of gas too soon. While having extremely powerfull cards and turns, you simply cannot play this class without One with the Mountain at 3 or 4 players. I played it a few times at 2 player without OwtM and because of the lower enemy count, it feels managable. But I really dislike classes which kinda forces you to HAVE to play 1 or 2 cards every scenario or HAVE to get a certain perk to make it work. Shackles had this kind of perk, Meteor also kinda and there a probably a few more. While i like the way FH designed these characters, it sometimes feels meh that you 'can not' go another route because you the sacrifice in power/flexibility is too great. Powerwise i'd put it at high B, maybe A for short scenario's put funwise, straight to the bin. Snowflake: My friend is playing this now as a pure support class since we have Meteor and Bannerspear for damage. This class can absolutly heal/prevent LOADS of damage in a scenario. Together with some push pull mechanics and a strong summon, this class feels bonkers in a 3 or 4 player party. I'm curious what people can do with this class if they went full dmg. Definetely S tier for us, both funwise and powerwise. Geminate: Only played shortly by one of my friends who felt way too overwhelmed by the tight decisions you had to make and he is a smart guy, who enjoys playing a lot of heavy boardgames. He retired very early so i cannot really judge the class that much. I would maybe like to play it someday. I'm close to retiring and will probably play prism next. I like playing with summons and I'm really curious if i would bin it as well. Hope you liked my overly long write up :D

That was a really fun read, thanks for writing it. Yes the list is based on how the character felt not only in the campaign that we played, but also my feelings towards the character even if just observing. My lists will never be based on powerlevel, but more knowledged content creators who have crunched the numbers will provide those. Also you mentioned Kelp but I believe you meant Coral :D Totally try Prism my friend. I think its a fascinating class, I just know if I played it, I would end up hating it.

So if you haven't unlocked those - you're probably a bit less than 75% there. The campaign endgame takes a while to get to - usually somewhere in Year 4 - and won't unlock without the puzzle book. Unlocking all classes will be inevitable before finishing the campaign :)
