Happy holidays, Bob! I think this kind of videos has the most value for a general audience. I found quite a few great value wines at TJ due to your recommendations. Cheers! P.S. I just got a vintage Cava from Costco (Gelida 2018). I've never seen a vintage Cava before. Did you try this one by any chance?

@bobpaulinskimasterofwine I'm a bit torn on my impression of this Cava. It does have that yeasty nose and taste of a good Champaigne, yet it seems a bit too acidic. That's why I asked what you think of it in case you tried it.

Hey Bob I bought that Pauillac before I knew anything about that region and before I found your channel. It was ok and then I discovered the cost of wines in that region!! Thanks for selecting that one and providing info. Can you let us know how you can tell which ones can be kept long term.
@bobpaulinskimasterofwine
@bobpaulinskimasterofwine 5 сағат бұрын
Hi Eddie, that wine is Pauillac at a regional level, not at a premium level. In terms of aging potential, I consider the wine producer, the region and vintage. With some, I know from past experience. As a general rule, the more specific the place of origin, the better the aging potential. For example, a basic/generic appellation Bordeaux will be the shortest lived, a regional appellation like Pauillac will be marginally longer lived, while a specific chateau bottling (especially Grand Crus) will be the longest lived.

First, let me say, I am sooooo glad I found this channel. Second, I love that very French pop when you pull the cork. Very classy. 🍟😃 TY for unwrapping the Trader Joe's French conundrum. I'll have to try that Chateau Pirouette with a Double Double Animal Style with fries. At 8 bucks, if it is not good it gets poured in Beef Burgundy.....errr make that, Beef Bordeaux. This won't work with Bob's setup. To dramatically improve audio, he would need a $300+ shotgun microphone plus stand. I personally don't have any issues with the audio quality. It's not perfect but not terrible either. I don't think there is a strong reason to go with a much more expensive setup at this point.

I'm beginning to think that the reason why I'm underexposed to Bordeaux is just because there's little competitive stock to be found at a reasonable price where I live. With Burgundy I don't get that problem because I pay the money anyway 😂

Bordeaux is heaped with value, but it’s too bad you don’t see it. When Burgundy is on the mark, it’s worth the money.

Back from Christmas trip! Merry Christmas again, Bob! The Emilio Moro is almost a threat if I don't buy it; fine, I will! I've been to Rias Baixas as the past years. I tried a few more albariños, got a bottle of a local red (I'm obssessed with indigenous red grapes from Rias Baixas, amazing style). Looking forward to showing my New Year's Eve line-up! Cheers

Merry Christmas! Almost a threat? Oh no, it is a threat! Make no mistake about it, if you don’t try it, I will track you down! 😂 I’m obsessed with indigenous grape varieties as well, along with off the beaten path varieties from obscure places. I just picked up a Mourvèdre from a nearly 100 year old vineyard in Contra Costa, just a few miles from my home. I’m looking forward to seeing the New Year’s Eve line up. Wishing you and your family a happy, healthy 2025. 🍷

For the price, if I could only choose one red wine as my regular permanent drink, it would be St. Emilion. Maybe because it was my introduction to Bordeaux 40 years ago (Chateau St. George in a Paris restaurant) or that I still just really like Merlot. I dunno... but I'm sure I'd be happy to retire there.

Hi there. Big difference. Cru Beaujolais is from the best vineyards of the region. Nouveau Beaujolais is generally from the more commercial vineyards. It’s a much more simple, fruity wine.
