Any recommendations? I want one laptop for business, Lenovo Thinkpad, 8th gen core or newer or AMD equivalent, 14 inch or smaller, light between 1.2 kg or 1.7 kg the lighter the better, some ligh gaming, used and good battery life, and if possible upgradeable ram and storage, and a second laptop for gaming cheap new or old laptop, 15.6 to 18 inches, 6 to 8 gb gpu such as 4050/3060/6600 performance (new or used) but cheap...

I have a t430 and I just recently upgraded it to i7 and 16Gb ram, and I can confidently say it can par with newer laptops today. The upgradability and repairability is what made go into it. Though other laptops can be repaired but the Thinkpad stands out the most.

i used to own one of these with a fhd touch screen, extended battery and fingerprint reader. it was a great laptop. a shame the lack of performance is starting to show

Can you give me advice? I got a X250, alreayd had a lenovo dock, which I can connect to the X250 with a USB-c to 20v coax (the yellow tipped connector) adaptor, that allows me to power the laptop, but wont connect to the 2 screens? how do I connect the laptop to the dock? should i use the USB 2.0 slots or the VGA? wierd that the adaptor allows power to the laptop, but doesnt connect the screens. thanks

Probably use the vga and mini displayport ports. The x250 was before video over USB so that won't work.

Informative video. Are you, running Windows 11 on your X395? I have a T495s R7 Pro 16/512, essentially an X395 with a 14” display and larger battery, and I’ve had a few BSOD crashes. I bought it refurbished, 11 Pro installed. Have you found any stability differences between 11 and 10? It might help me pin down the issue. Thanks again.

I just run win 10 and it's pretty stable for me never tried win 11

@@InigmaDT Thank you for replying. Clean installed 10 Pro, and so far it's been fine, so I'll let it run on that. Have you experimented with disabling the CPU power management setting in the BIOS? Some have written, it's more responsive when disabled, but there's little hard evidence.

@@InigmaDT Thanks for the update. Currently run W10 Pro and it's been stable. FYI, with 11, the BSOD were all the same, the display freezes, and either blue screen, or I had to hold down the power button, to force a shutdown and restart.

Actually had my GTX 745 since 2019. Got it real cheap on ebay for $25.00. Not bad for the price. And here it is 2024 and still running fine! A nice little profile video card. A good video. Thanks for sharing!

X395 also fits win11 requirements and does not suffer from the infamous thunderboltproblem as on intel thinkpads of that time

upgradability is an unfair criticism. old thinkpads were like that because most laptops of the time periods were. New ones aren't because nowadays businesses want slim laptops not upgradable ones.

I stick to my X270 for it is the last model of the series allowing to switch RAM and to switch between SATA and M.2, plus it has two batteries that last for 12 hours. I just upgraded the display to FHD which was very easy and the wifi card to Wifi6e/BT 5.3, so I'm prepared for the next coming years.

The X250 is a fine system and perfectly usable for office/browing users. It also runs Linux very well. But the X270 and X280 are quicker and not much more expensive. So, unless you get a very good deal on one, it's probably worth a few quid to get a slightly newer model.

All motherboards now and days support 3 pin or 4 pin fans, 3 pin fans are DC fans where 4 pin are PWM the only real difference is the 4th pin is a since pin and will tell you the RPM the fan is running. The reason the little plastic tab on the fan header for the motherboard is manly on one side is to support the 3 pin fans clip, and that is the side you plug in the fan if its a 3 pin fan1

Cards like this are mostly pointless, you wont find one typically for say like $20, and at least in the market I am in I can get a 1070 for $60ish if I watch, so the 950 is just pointless
