I have most of Tom’s music in my iTunes rotation. On the morning of 10/2/17, I listened to this beautiful song, one of my favs, as I drove into work thinking what would I do without Tom’s music to get me through the traffic jams of life. Sadly it was later that afternoon I was sitting in my office doing some legal research when a news brief popped up that Tom was on life support. I had a dreadful feeling we’d lost him and within minutes the news was confirmed. Friends started texting me. My boss who knew I was a huge fan came down to my office to see if I’d heard. I ended up meeting a couple of friends down at our watering hole to commiserate and it was all anyone could talk about but made it so much easier to know I wasn’t the only one hurting. In fact his death inspired me to play guitar and “Walls” was the first song I learned. I truly hope Tom knew what he meant to his fans.

I like this version much better than the studio recorded version. Great tempo and instrumental arrangement.

Having my students do a song analysis essay. I agreed to do one myself as an example. I knew it had to be a Petty song, but wasn't sure which one. After a few minutes looking through my albums, it hit me...Walls. Perfect use of figurative language and symbolism to convey an deeper meaning. Thank you Tom for the gift of music. Hopefully I can get some middle schoolers into your music ; )

Very few musicians can sound the same live or in studio. That is true organic talent.

One of the regrets of my life, not seeing Tom & The Heartbreakers when they were in Hartford June 14, 2017, less than three months before we all lost him. His best songs were not necessarily his most popular ones, not a bad one in the bunch. Such a talent & treasure!!

I think I like this even more than the original, and this is in my top 3 Petty songs. It's missing those ending harmonies, but the uptempo just flows perfect. RIP you legend, and thank you Donna Rose for sharing, even some 15 years later.
