When I wear the kilt pubs in Nova Scotia, Cape Breton and New Brunswick, I am warmly welcomed. When I did it in Scotland, I was judged and scorned. Thanks Scotland. No thanks.

There is a phrase I go with that always helped me whenever I was around products I did not have an intimate knowledge of that would guide me to “the good stuff”. My mother taught it to me and I think it came from Coco Chanel, and I think it’s perfect for that time when you’re out and about and you don’t have someone around to guide you to the right decisions. It goes like this: “If you don’t know what is good, ask what is expensive”. I have, of course, greatly developed my tastes and my knowledge of many things since childhood, but this mindset never failed me whenever I encountered something new as I was growing up😉

Gaelic is wonderful but that awful orthography, with little to almost no correspondence between letters and sounds really puts modern learners off (same problem Irish has). I wonder if the relative success of Welsh isn't partially due to its very consistent spelling and letter-sound correspondences... For instance, 'craobh' [ kʰɾɯːv ] vs. 'coed' [ koːɨ̯d ] for tree in Sc. Gaelic and Welsh...

The weather in Scotland sounds just like the NW Pacific weather here in Washington state. I never put away any of my woolies because next week I will need them. We live at the ocean and there is always a wind and sometimes it’s just a breeze.
