I just ran into your video on your pilot custom 74 30th, after two years how do you feel about your your anniversary set? Did it live up to your expectation. I’m looking to buy a pilot custom 74, would love your feed back.
@drawinsscribblins532614 күн бұрын
Hi. Looking back, that was probably my silliest purchase. Not because there is anything wrong with the Custom 74 but because it was so expensive for what you get in the set. A regular Custom 74 is a great choice. The FM nib was a bit scratchy to me and needed smoothing but all in all I’d recommend the 74 just not this Anniversary set.
@Latinart14 күн бұрын
@ Thanks for the prompt response and the great advice to get a custom 74 and not the anniversary set. Can I ask you how much you paid for that set.? Most custom 74 with transparent color body styles new can sell between $200 to $180.
@drawinsscribblins532614 күн бұрын
Sure. It retailed at Yoseka for $350 but I had a 10% coupon. So it was a little over $100 more for the two extra bodies and ink. Plus the nice box and Con-70. The pen itself has held up well. No cracks, drying, nib issues, etc. I just looked and there are Anniversary sets for $200 shipping from Japan. It is well worth it at that price.
@Latinart14 күн бұрын
@ Thabk you so much for sharing. Your personal experience and your opinion on the quality of this pen has helped me decide to buy a Pilot custom 74. I just took a look and yes It is about $200 at Japanese sites which is a great price for the 30th anniversary set. You should consider making a recap video about this pen, your experience with it, your opinion on quality and your purchase pricing and the pricing of it now. Thank you thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge.

Ironic those are my two nibs for my 912s PO and FA. I needed to put a 2 slit(There is a 3slit) red ebonite feed in the FA nibsmith. Helped a little the feed but I still get it to skip on new words especially writing cursive. Never tried doing lines with the reverse. I like to keep a sailor fude for those lines now I need to test it. Ok it works but you have to lay it low but great for adhoc use. Ebay has the 912 Neo which comes in Green, Brown and Red demos. I have an interest to get the 742 Modernized in green if they drop in price. Just an FYI cause I know how boring Pilot lines are vs Sailor esp in the gold nibs.

That’s quite an impressive Montblanc collection. My only Montblanc, the Meisterstuck No. 12 vintage is very similar to your No. 22. My ink window is amber, yours is blue. The cap band is different as well. As a matter of fact, the dealer at the Dallas pen show told me it was a No. 22. My research proved otherwise. I do love my pen. Flushing and reinking now. Thanks for sharing your enjoyable collection! The pens look gorgeous arranged on your leather notebook cover.

Wonderful video! Thank you for showing your swatch method. What an excellent idea to show the performance of the ink and nib at the same time, rather than just a swatch of smeared ink. You are excellent at repairing pens. If the Majohn X1 doesn’t last long, would you be able to exchange nibs with the black one? I do love my Makralon LAMY 2000 EF. I’ve always considered the stainless model to be heavier. Excellent idea to use the rubber grip. Impressive Sheaffer Imperial! I love pens with inlaid nibs. Thank you for sharing your thoughts in your pen and ink journal. What a fabulous record.
@drawinsscribblins5326Ай бұрын
Hi, Marcy. Thank you for the kind words. Whenever the white X1 totally falls apart, I’m going to try to switch the nibs. I’m hoping it will hold on. I was inspired to condition my Galen leather case after watching your video. It doesn’t look that much better. I used Kiwi leather conditioner. I may need to buy some of Galen’s.
@MarcellHobbsАй бұрын
@ I do hope it does better with the new conditioner.
@MarcellHobbsАй бұрын
@ Hopefully the Galen Leather balm will work better. You may need to try to buff out the previous application if possible so the leather can fully absorb the new condition without being sealed out.
@MarcellHobbsАй бұрын
@ Sorry for the delayed response. I had a loading error the first time. Anyway, here we go again. I’m confident you will be able to salvage a good X1 between the two. I’m sorry about the performance of the Kiwi. I would try to warm the leather and buff out as much of that conditioner as possible if you do decide to add Galen Leather balm. You don’t want the first application to seal out good benefits of your second application. I would just wrap it in a light towel and place it on the dashboard of my vehicle on a sunny day, then rub down with that towel. I’ll be anxious to hear how it all turns out!

I ❤️ Stipula. One of my three favorite pen makers of all time. The other two being Aurora, Montegrappa (and heck, Sailor, too). I own 14 Stipulas. Mostly the upscale, expensive ones w/14k and 18 k gold nibs. But I do own one of these Ventidue pens (the Ruby Red) with a 1.1 steel italic. I don’t normally like metal sections and finials on resin-bodied pens. But on this pen, it works out perfectly fine. Your thoughts on the 22 pen mostly mirror mine. When I bought it, I didn’t expect to end up liking it as much as I do. Stipula’s pistons, across different models, are usually somewhat stiff - compared to other brands, especially Aurora and Pelikan, which have the smoothest and best pistons, in my opinion. Stipula pens are also usually not built to be disassembled by the user. It’s one big drawback of the pens. I haven’t yet dared to attempt taking apart the piston for re-greasing and such, on any of my piston-filling Stipula’s. I like all their nibs: steel, gold and titanium. Stipula have a certain charm and romance to their pens that is hard to describe in words but easy to sense once you own and use them. Quirky, as Italian pens generally are, I think Stipula (being a small company with laid-back marketing) is crazily overlooked and under-appreciated, except by its devoted niche fan base. Gosh, I’ve rambled. I’m a Stipula fanboy of a kind. Thanks for this neat, well-done review of a very good fountain pen. I’d also recommend a close cousin of the Ventidue in the Stipula family. It’s the Vedo. I have one myself.

Pelikan writing implements have always been my go-to scribes - tho' exclusively fountain pens; perhaps because I am left-handed - I could never get along with biros or rollerballs, primarily because my handwriting with those pens, resembled a train wreck ! I digress. Over the years I have acquired over sixty Peli's from as early as the nineteen forties to the present day. I pre-ordered my '40th' & now await delivery - it is the most expensive Souveran I have ever purchased, but under the circumstances, I consider it worth the price. My only small critique is the lack in availability of differing nib sizes - you're stuck with Medium. I look forward to taking receipt; fortuitous tho' that yours arrived on such an auspicious day ! Absolutely, I will show how I do my swatch in my next Currently Inked but it’s real easy…using pencil I draw a square then a circle. In the square, I start on the right drawing very light lines moving the left with darker lines. For the circle, I fill about half of the circle just drawing with the pen. Then I use a wet Qtip to blend. I do it this way so I don’t have to pull out all the ink bottles. I can just use the pen. Thank you!!
