I'm a gay right supporter and I can't celebrate the death of this woman !!! I disagree with how she went about her campaign against gays but she was still entitled to her opinion. Anita was old school and was brought up in a very religious household and for the most part the church taught her homosexuality was a sin. The gay community could have stepped up to her by offering to take her to a dinner, or taking her to a play at a theater where gay actor's and actress's would perform. Why would that be a good idea ? To show Anita how gay couples and their friends live,love, and laugh just like straight friends and couple's. Forgiveness is key and on both sides ( Anita and her husband forgave the man who threw a pie in her face) so the gay community should try and forgive Anita for her misguided and hurtful rhetoric 🌈 Again, it's wrong to celebrate the death of anyone you may disagree with. I'll never understand why LGBTQ+ people would want to be part of a church that defines them that way. Progress is not tasteless crumbs when the underlying thinking is still poisonous and dehumanizing. Celibacy has always been required, regardless of sexual orientation. Finally, as a scholar of Anglicanism, Episcopalians are not Catholic-lite. Their theology is quite different.
