I solved almost everything without looking up stuff. For some reason I did a websearch on the Whark gallow, which was not the hardest of puzzles. But the fire marbles I had immediately, maybe I was lucky, but it didn't seem so difficult. But overall the difficulty is brutal, I also never met anyone who finished the game without at least one or two web searches...

Wonderful games - I finished all the <Myst games unaided and also others such as Time-lapse and Obsidian. Riven was my favorite though. I replayed Must when Realmyst came out. Don't understand why there isn't a version you can actually walk though with VR glasses so you can feel like you are really interacting with the worlds. If there is such a version I haven't found it I believe Obduction was released with this sort of interface.

This game laid the foundation for a style of game that I loved, and the best parts of Jedi : Fallen Order is when it feels like you are playing this game.

In all honesty, combat was great for the game. It was just monotonous to a fault. But the way everything really revolved around seamless movement made me both satisfied and infuriated while playing. I just hoped that they could go back and explore the systems in this reboot. But with the new PoP game looking almost like a mobile game on steroids, I think its time I ended my wishful thinking.

My two favorite PC games in the 90's were Doom and Myst. I briefly worked on a Myst WAD file (a Doom map based on Myst) but gave up.

I remember when Myst original released, it was amazing because of the photo like imagery, stereo ambient sounds and the mix of live action with computer generated graphics. Groundbreaking IMO. But most of all, the puzzles were very challenging. I would love to see a documentary on the puzzle creators and the incredible work they did to keep us engaged!

I just watched Gab Smolders Myst remake playthrough. I stopped when I realised that I have gotten my first VR headset and haven't played Myst in VRmode yet. Yummy!

I agree with you all though honestly, I think this game is pretty good. Sure it has no fail states but so do some indie games and PoP 2008 feels like a precusor to those kinds of games. I also think it's better than Sands of Time for the reasons you stated plus, PoP 2008 uses bad combat as a way to punish the player for not mastering the timing and inputs where with SoT, it's just bad combat that lacks any depth and is full of endless enemy waves. Also, what I don't get is how this game is bad but shit like AC2 and the Uncharted games are better, sure they have fail states, but it is impossible to reach those fail states due to how brainless the "platforming" is.

I played Riven for the first time in the summer of 2002. I was 17 years old. It took me 3 weeks of grinding the game, taking notes and just being mesmerized by the environment. I finished it entirely by myself, no hints, no guides, no help. Still the best adventure game gaming experience I've ever had.

I really liked the Prince of Persia reboot and would like a sequel or other conclusion to that saga. I prefer the Sands of Time saga of course and there is no reason for a reboot. As a standalone title though it was actually quite good and sales would have probably been better if it had a different title.

One of my very earliest gaming-related memories is of my dad playing Myst while I sat on his lap and watched. Now, with my 24th birthday in a couple of months, I’ve got the bug in my ear to treat myself to the Myst bundle when Steam has their winter sale. This is one of those games that holds a DEEP place in your memory, even if you’re like me and never really played it yourself when you first saw it. I very much look forward to experiencing the series myself soon.

After all these years of people hating this game, I really feel good people loving it the way it was meant to be loved at the time it came. I think simply the game came at the wrong time, it came very ahead of it's time. And people actually wanted a Prince of Persia game like the original trilogy, and this being different from that resulted the game in being hated. I think Ubisoft should start new with Prince of persia, with a game that has best of both worlds, the Parkour fluidity, graphics and beauty 2008's and story, complexity, characters, like the original and we will have a masterpiece

A lot of people (including me) hated change of personality and appearance (altho later in the game; the first one was partly explained). Complete change of combat and "lose" of many abilities, felt like a downgrade to Prince. You also couldn't die; which devs poorly explained as a substitute for no time manipulation. I suppose most people didn't even give a chance to it (some bigger fans didn't even accept it as a PoP game) after first impression... or simply didn't hear about it, due poor advertising & lack of new/proper name (literally the same as the first game). Regardless of it being an over-simplified game - I still believe it's one of the greatest production which came out from Ubi and a hidden, forgotten gem... Polished and stylized graphics stands really well even to this day, a numerous different, great soundtracks; in the so high amount, feels almost too much for such very short game. Phasing of story and a different environments types is really well-balanced. There are also optional dialogues, which you can decide to listen or not, which is also a nice feature. And while the platforming is probably the most enjoyable part of the gameplay; After some time it feels a little bit too much - too repetitive, which is probably my biggest complain. But again - the game is not really that long (even if you decide to grab all collectibles), making it overall a really pleasent experience, which rather won't make you feel like you've waste your time.

This game haunted my dreams as a child. So cold. So empty. So exponentially terrifying. The fact this video was recommended to me for seemingly no reason feels borderline chthonic. I mean it nothing personal to your video but when I see it and start cold sweating that's because I know Myst has seen me again. And I only clicked to write this message before it inevitably takes me...

6:00 That's not entirely correct. SoT allowed to you quickly jump from one pillar to the next by pointing the joystick into the direction of the next pillar and holding the jump button. But because of the camera this often resulted in the prince jumping into the void.
