Depends. IMHO the PC bullsh*t in Mankind Divided is very annoying and exaggerated but many important details about the story and the game's world (and even some side quests) are well hidden thoughout the maps. I recently got to finish it, and I honestly felt that even on its own it was a mediocre. A lot of elements felt mishandled with a story that while wasn't absolutely awful was pretty lackluster and not very engaging (had good elements, though. I like majority of stuff related to JC outside of him having an army of talking aliens which was dumb, and NG Resonance who you meet multiple times in the game was always a joy to talk to). That's on top of the small levels and the technical issues (which are semi fixed with The Visible Upgrade mod), and the mechanics being dumbed down.

Speaking as an ardent fan and veteran of the original: the third title - 'Human Revolution' - was a fantastic one. Square Enix put right everything Invisible War got wrong, and concentrated on what made the original great, but also improved upon them. It even featured melee (choice of lethal or non-lethal) cutscenes and wall-cover during gunfights. 'Mankind Divided' was also a good outing - although sadly I experienced technical issues and it crashed at a certain point every time. It grieved me, but I had to stop and uninstall in favour of other games that did work.

You can see it also in the intro but can't see the name, could be JC, since Simmons and Bob Page are mentioning that the next unit is almost ready. The empty tanks are were JC and Paul Denton were created. I think there's also a fourth empty tank without a name.

There is an empty tank, one named "Wade Walker" which is Simons's clone, and one named "Nick Pausback" which is page's clone. Deus Ex is my all time favorite game. I have played it in every way imaginable. I even did a run using the mini crossbow. It has even dictated how I play games. The looking for multiple ways to accomplish something. Searching every nook and cranny of an area before leaving. Even my combat style. The first time I played Project: Snowblind, the first thing that went through my head was, is this another Deus Ex game ? Turns out it was. The game looks dated, but then so does Deus Ex, but that doesn't make it any less of a game. Should have been the sequel. Invisible War was a pretty decent game. Just as long as Deus Ex isn't put in front of it .I liked the idea of being able to switch out AUGS. And with the Unified Texture Mod it even looks better. I have played Human Revolution multiple times and it is always different.This last go around they even updated some of the dialog to make a not so subtle reference to our current situation. Although I will admit to having chose option #4 this time, as I couldn't see much difference in any of the factions. Haven't played Mankind Divided only because of all the loose threads left hanging at the end, with no new Deus Ex game coming anytime soon. But there is a Deus Ex game not listed here Deus Ex:The Fall. It's set during the time period of Adam's hospitalization. Haven't played it yet. But it involves a disfranchised Bell Tower merc.

It's not just the game play that makes Deus Ex the best IMSIM. The game play, open worldness, alternate choices and paths have all been surpassed in one way or another. E.g. there was nothing interactive for lock picking, or electronics; you just had to have enough resources. Or a high enough hacking skill to read emails before it timed out. Also, the pickable door next to the vent next to the TNT near a data cube was a bit obvious, and alternative solutions are handled much better in current games. But something far more important and something that other IMSIMs haven't approached, is the story/plot (acting notwithstanding), that makes it the best. I always wanted to find out where it would take me next, how threads would tie together or split. To see new competing factions or how one faction was controlled by another. I was amazed at how they foresaw so much of what the player might do. I got *so* sick of Anna killing Lebedev that I stuck some LAMs on the wall leading to his bedroom, expecting the game to end when she blowed up real good, but they had prepared for it. That blew me away. The first time I saw "Exploration Bonus" I knew it was something special. The diversity of locations and environments kept me really wanting to get to the next reveal. Then it was the great gameplay that made it so much fun to get there. I still remember getting such a good feeling when I'd start up the game and hear the opening music. Maybe I should put it on my phone to trigger ASMR. I'm playing Control now, I'm on the fourth or fifth mission and am already getting bored. So far, I've gotten some new items and encountered new bad guys. No plot twists, no surprises. Or at least nothing of the "wow" type. In DX, the thing I thought needed fixing was the inventory. First, if your inventory was full, you couldn't pick up a body that had stuff on it. Second, they never marked out the geometry of the items. Was it 4x3 or 5x4? It wasn't obvious. So I'd have to drop 1/2 my inventory, pick up the new item, and then fill in the gaps around it with the stuff I dropped. Sometimes everything fit because there was enough space, but it wasn't the right shape. Invisible War "fixed" it. To me, it's solution was better than not being able to pick up and hide a body inside the Paris sewers because it had a GEP gun in the inventory as a trooper was approaching. Hey Warren, come back and do the dropped parts as a kind of DLC. Not a sequel, but a mid-quel or side-quel (DX[0][0... 3]). You could remaster the rest for completeness and context. And fix the inventory. The only other game with as many plot twists and environments is something I'll get a ton of shit for, is SiN. It begins a a bank heist, turns into a drug bust, the drugs turn out to be used to make mutations, the mutations are part of an army made by a ridiculously big boobed bad lady. Along the way, you have a stealth or die mission, a sniper mission around an oil rig where you can take out many enemies from a distance, on the rig itself, swimming level (sucked, IMO), underwater base, tropical island (with volcano). It was pretty juvenile in many ways, but the game drew me forward because of the evolution of the plot. And it was so buggy the patch was basically a new build of the entire game. Still, plotwise, it was great. PS: There's a cool video out with WS, HS and someone else (Doug Church maybe?) playing parts of DX and chatting about it. They love the game and obviously poured their hearts and souls into it. I don't have a link on this machine, but if I find it, I'll probably forget to post it here later. PPS: Did I find and post it yet?

愛乞う イクトAikou I'm fully aware of the Mankind Divided controversy, but remember that before we got Human Revolution, there were 4 (maybe even more) failed attempts to bring back the series after the failure of Invisible War. If Deus Ex survived that, I can assure you that the Jensen Saga will return one day. Regarding the idea of a DX1 Remake, as much as I love the original game, I agree that a Remake/Reinterpretation (like the Resident Evil 2 Remake) with Improved Gameplay and restored discarded content would be a great idea.
@aikou28866 жыл бұрын
RaidenBlackSamurai Lolz I did not remember that, the only failed attempt I remembered was "Call of Deus Ex" also known as "Project Snow-blind" but that kind of gives me hope. Well most of the cut content/ideas were dropped due to both technology limitations and time constraints so a proper remake would be wonderful. Emphasis on proper because most remakes are just made for the sake of sales so they end up looking a bit more like expansions with a considerably lower difficulty in comparison to the original game.

I never knew about the history of Deus Ex until just now. The first ever Deus Ex I've played was Deus Ex Mankind Divided and it is really fun to play and made me curious when I saw a little cut scene of Adam when he got really hurt before he has augmentations

I recently played the first game. And I have never felt such way about any other game. It has everything that we see now in modern games. Decision based progression, multiple approaches to solving situations, augmentations, credit points, multiple choice dialogues etc. Everything that games after that copied.

@@FeelingShred Haha that's the perfect way of pronouncing it the wrong way. Deus is a Latin word. It's not pronounced using the weird English sounds. To make it simple say it as if you were reading it in Spanish, or like Olive says: like one would pronounce Amadeus which actually comes from that word meaning one that loves god or something like that I think

I cannot boast that I bought the game immediately upon release. Nor can I claim that I still have my original saves from first playthrough - I've had three or four computers ever since first purchasing Deus Ex in 2001. I can, however, testify that the moment I started playing was one of the best moments of my life.

Yeah as much as I love it, can't really say Deus Ex is the pinnacle of choice since any choice you make makes about 0 difference to anything else.
@TheJayson88995 жыл бұрын
Maybe you've been playing it the same way each time. You're constantly rewarded for making better decisions. Be it through discounts, XP or given items. NPCs always comment on your decisions.
@Xegethra4 жыл бұрын
Huge choices are difficult to pull off, you have to account for what people will do and what that could effect. Choice is by and large an illusion on a large scale....there's only 3 endings. Small minor choices exist all over, and that's what tricks people. So one NPC is dead as opposed to another? Who cares, it affects nothing other than that and some reward difference. You'll end the game as a God, put the world in the dark ages or do something with the Illuminati....all the time, every time. Those little choices are nice though, and they do make you feel differently depending on which you do but they don't mean much beyond that as they aren't reflected in the ending. They change the narrative somewhat, in minor ways so they are worth it for piece of mind and the type of person you want JC to be (Hence RPG)...but not for actual story change. Not to say the game is bad, but you have to be rail roaded like that. Too many things to take into account to achieve real choice that they just cannot account for. So all your choice does is change rewards and the augments/play style....the world stays the same.

I was so fortunate to have played the first one when it first came out. It was, sadly, the peak of gaming for me, and subsequent games simply did not reach the same Heights. I remember I had to buy the game in a physical store but couldn't play straight away because I had to leave the country for a month. I couldn't take the game with me because laptops we're not widespread back then and cheap. So instead I took the manual with me and read it page to page until there are many tiny white cracks on the pages.

Fun fact I had a friend who pronounced it "Deuce Ex" it started a 20 minute argument that I eventually gave up on. I loved the original Deus Ex game I remember having a demo of it called the preview edition. It was the game from the start all the way up to Hong Kong where the game ends. I remember being pissed off at the fact that it was a demo apparently not taken in the fucking definition of PREVIEW...I was a slow child...But I eventually bought the full version of the game, did the same style of playthrough (I was a thief fan so I loved Stealth) and loaded up the game with Albino JC. I've played the game so many times it's insane and probably can get me put away. I know every nook, where every item is, and I also know the backstory to most of the characters and organizations. I was even shocked and saddened by the betrayal of my brother, sticking with blood I was more saddened by the fact that he was right the entire time. Needless to say the game has stuck with me over the years like , Fallout 1 and 2, Broken Sword, and Thief. I pretty much just named off my top games right there. Then you get into the sequels...and...you just can't do it. None of them to me have lived up to the original game and I don't think they ever will. Invisible War was a clunky mess that ruined most of the previous characters like JC and Paul, I would freeze up trying to go into the settings menu of the game, the writing was bad and so on...but it was playable and if it was just called Invisible War I could see it being a cult classic. But because it has Deus Ex at the start of it's title it becomes a horrible game to some. The third and fourth game, are just cover shooters with a deep story and the illusion of choice. It feels like a shell of what the first game was, they all do. Like with Invisible War, Human Revolution and Human Revolution 2: Mankind Divided are solid games...but to me not as sequels. That's just my opinion though.
@DatRapGamer7 жыл бұрын
I wish they would make the current Deus Ex's like the original. I want melee weapons, and a more simple looking map (like the original). Human Revolution and Mankind divided were overdone with designing on maps, there was too much happening (don't get me wrong, it looks nice) but every map you enter (Prague, London) is littered with so much going on. Also remove the cover system, I know it's appealing for modern gamers but what I liked most about the original Deus Ex was having to peek over corners or listen for footsteps to know when the cover is clear (if deciding to play stealthy).

Mankind Divided was excellent. It's main flaw was in continuing the lamentable legacy of diminishment. Deus Ex had three city hubs. Human Revolution only had two. Mankind Divided... one. It's awfully challenging to take it seriously and not to begrudge it that. But they do a lot with that one hub, and the result is a game very much worth playing.
@BloodRedFox20086 жыл бұрын
After recently finishing Mankind Divided I'm certainly intrigued with how they'll conclude the Jensen storyline. With Human Revolution showing the end of an era, and Mankind Divided giving us a look into the early years of the dystopia we later see in the first game, Jensen's story is edging much closer to JC and Paul's. Hell Mankind Divided takes place the very year JC was born. If Jensen's story is going to end as a trilogy I'd think one big way to do it is have his final game take place over a period of 20 something years from 2030 to 2050 or 2052, with Jensen's story ending around where JC's begins. I'm sort of imagining something like the Burial At Sea expansion to BioShock Infinite. You get to help set the events of the "first story" in motion, but ultimately the story one character sets in motion has to be finished by the main character of the aforementioned "first story."

Deus Ex started incredibly strong, becoming a classic. Invisible war, while being a decent game, was strictly inferior to the first Game. Then, with Human Revolution we got a very nice new Deus Ex game, in the style of the classic. With Mankind Divided, history repeats itself with a "good but not as good" sequel. At least it was not restricted to the XBOX One ;D
@Stiffmiester9794 жыл бұрын
My favorite thing about Human Revolution, and even Mankind Divided is that you really can choose to be the type of aug you want to be, and you won't be harshly punished for it. Hell in many ways the game encourages you to build Adam into a dumpster hurling bulldozer so you can punch through walls and move obstacles to reach hidden areas. They found a great way to make stealth and strength intertwined without really forcing either on you. Unless you're playing on Give Me Deus Ex you can basically gear Adam up and go on a straight up fight night rampage if you know your stuff lol. Hell I got through Give Me Deus Ex relying heavily on melee alone for both games. Ended Mankind divided with well over 80 tranq darts and about as many stun clips.
