Hi Ronald, I just use a neoprene Watersport vest that I bought from BCF for around $100. I like this type because it is still comfortable when it gets wet and gives me padding to lean and sit while sailing. I am happy to hear that my videos have inspired you to get into dinghy cruising.What type of boat have you bought?and where do you sail? Cheers Bruce

@@brucedyson-smith459 I'm still looking. There's a Red Jacket 17 I'm looking at tomorrow, it comes with a mooring which could work. Being a Senior mooring fees are half price. And I'm not adverse to sailing to Pittwater and further south. Living in Sydney's inner west is problematic for owning a trailer sailer. If you park on the street the neighbours will lynch you and/or report you to the council, such are the parking issues here. But there maybe work arounds for this if I see the right boat. I'll keep you posted - Cheers Ronald.

Nice one!! Done Broughton Island? We kayak (with sails if it works out) there from Anna Bay pretty regularly for the weekend. Crossed Bass Strait and the at sea lunch was almost exactly what you had! And I know those “what are you doing out here” looks!! When there are whale watching boats around we sometimes throw in a roll to hear the screams.

That little sand bar that you stopped on at Swansea, my husband’s grandfather died right there sadly. Waterway there is deceptive and dangerous if you don’t know what you’re doing. My thinking was it would be easy to get to, until one day i worked out that at 10kts boat speed that 25m is gone at under 5 seconds. I really enjoyed this video mate , just some questions and that is what was the weather forecast for you to chose to sail in open waters to Sydney and marine conditions ie such as swells etc ? , not sure if you got a navigation video or not but one on that topic would be great as well. I know when I used to go out fishing with my dad years ago we used to have ready made sandwiches etc ready to eat that way we didn’t have to worry about making stuff to much on in rolley water’s, dads bait prawns where not safe ether I used to eat those raw as well 🤣
@brucedyson-smith459
@brucedyson-smith459 Ай бұрын
Ha,classic eating the bait. You are right I should have lunch ready made but it tends to get overlooked unfortunately. I love offshore sailing and keep checking forecasts and wind graphs before committing to a trip like this.If you have a long way to go in a small boat following breeze is needed to cover the miles. I use these apps- Seabreeze.Predict Wind and the Bom website mainly. I don’t have a video about this as I am no expert on the subject. Cheers

I am so impressed with the speed of the Day Sailer! Would love to see an in depth tour of the boat if you ever feel like it- rigging upgrades, other things you’ve done to make it fast and reliable. Great video! I enjoyed the whole thing. But, I’ve always been taught to run down the tweaker on guy side and let it fly on the sheet (except to keep it off the boom). It might give better shape to the luff of the kite. Then, on gybes, tweak down both hard to keep a little more control through the turn. Thanks for taking us with you!
@brucedyson-smith459
@brucedyson-smith459 Ай бұрын
Thank you,yes I normally use the tweaker on the brace side more but I found in those bouncy conditions and running so square that the pole kept working itself back from the clew regardless of tweaker being on or not creating to much pressure on the tweaker.This doesn’t happen in calmer conditions but yes it looked a bit ugly.Also I find gybing solo easier without tweaker as it allows a bit more movement of the sheets. Thank you for your insights 👍
