Great video mate! I can't tell you how many times I have camped in the rain and sailed in the rain but I've never sail camped in the rain. I simply must after viewing this! My day sailor doesn't know it yet but we are going sail camping in the rain soon here in Virginia, U.S. Thanks for taking us along!! ........⛵⛵⛵⛵⛵⛵⛵

yesterday I saw one of Josh's videos and commented on your boat. He sent me here. I told him it's an O'Day Day Sailor, my folks had number 1310 in the late 60's I spent Many hours crewing for my Dad in southern California. good luck, keep on sailin'

Thanks Gary, My boat was built here in Oz in 1975.There is no hull number as it was not built in the Oday factory.She is a very versatile boat and I have many more plans for future trips. Cheers Bruce

Bruce I've started watching your vids a few weeks ago. I grew up in Sydney (Hawksbury, Pittwater, syd harbour) rolling about on front birth my parents Farr 25. But the very best years - Myall Lakes. Dreamy. The size of the huntsman 's thou 🙈. What a vid to come across 🎉👌✅

A little rain never hurt anyone eh Bruce? Great video with the close and longer shots and good to hear your commentary. For me it makes all the difference and NO music. Wonderful.

Thanks and yes a bit of dampness keeps you honest.

Interesting and well-matched. Gotta have a good tent in that rain. Covered while motoring is a smart setup. A good sailing speed in dinghies makes a lot of sense if you want to see more.

Thanks yes I haven’t organised a proper tent yet it’s on the to do list.

Hi Bruce, thank you very much for the nice video. I love it. Whish one day I can sail as good as you. I have Falcon 16 currently under restoration. It is similar to your Oday. Can you share how you set up your boat for week long trip? How to gather weather information and plan a route. May Falcon has an older main sail that does not have reefing points. It looks like you do not have a reefing point too. Can you please share what to manage or avoid strong wind? Should I just take down sails and start motoring?

Hi there Thanks for the kind words. My boat is set up fairly standard. I take everything in dry bags incase of capsize and I tie everything in. I do have a deep reef in my mainsail and also carry a parachute sea anchor if needed. I sail with reefed main and jib up to around 25kt.Anything stronger and I sail on reefed main only. I work off local weather apps on my phone for trip planning and carry a handheld vhf.If you watch my Broughton Island video you can see how the boat is set up and also sailing reefed. I hope this helps.cheers Bruce

@@brucedyson-smith459 what % I should put my reef points in? Is there some thing call reef too much? Is it necessary to invest in storm sails? I am new to sailing and love to hear your opinion.
@brucedyson-smith4592 жыл бұрын
@@infomax2008 I would talk to a sailmaker to give you advice on the size reef you would need. I don’t carry storm sails.
