@@jimdye7431 it’s the down version but it does have a percentage of synthetic in it. I think in one of my videos I said it was synthetic but it’s not. But I’m not one that is 100% against synthetic except it just does not pack down as well but as far as keeping you warm it works.

Wild that you decided to be the only real life customer reviewing right when I was giving them a gander. I don't really trust those 1:30 promotional videos with all the pizzazz and much prefer these testimonials. I've been struggling with finding a light weight bottom for a mid layer/alternative second hiking pant for a thru hike and I wonder how these would hold up in lower temperatures coupled with a base layer. Really trying to perfect the layering system and oddly a comfortable light weight mid layer camp pant is hard to find.

This is exactly what I do. Light, loose, layers (military). Works best for me. I can add or take off as the weather changes. Mountain Hardwear Dynama Pants have been my go to. Also been looking at Kettle Mountain. These are very interesting and I might try them but they are just outrageously expensive.

Yeah I honestly don't know yet with these joggers. I live in western Kentucky and right now it's too hot and there's too many ticks to really see how these will fit into my kit. I can see how they would fit out west in higher elevations but I'm gonna have to see how they apply over here on the east coast. Their whole thing with these is the breathability of shorts but needing the protection of pants. Where we backpack mostly your not really exposed a whole lot in the woods and there's still quite a bit of trees on the ridge tops. So it's still TBT for me on these but they are really nice for what they are.

How does it do in freezing & below freezing temps?
@DryBonesOutdoors Жыл бұрын
The lowest temps I have had it down to was 12 degrees Fahrenheit on top of Mt Leconte in March with 40+ mph winds and was warm. Granted I had my base layers on, my pants, socks, mid-layers and puffy, and a toboggan. But I did sleep well below freezing and well below its confort rating. I have it both the light bed and the core bed in the low 30’s Fahrenheit multiple times and just slept in my base layers and was toasty. And that was with the 25 degree sleep systems. This was also in Kentucky and Tennessee, and I wasn’t sleeping on frozen ground. The Mt Leconte trip was in a shelter. Hope this helps and thanks for watching.

Thanks for the update, I’m pretty close to ordering one of these systems but just trying to work out which one - I find their site extremely confusing with all the different options and configurations. I would like to see the packed down size of the two systems. I moto camp off a bike so weight not an issue but I try to keep volume down. Cheers from New Zealand.
@DryBonesOutdoors Жыл бұрын
They both pack down pretty small it’s just the light bed packs down real small. The light bed will pack down into a 7L compressible stuff sack. If weight is not an issue I would just go with the core bed and you can get their compression sack and it compresses pretty good. I might do a video where I can compare both systems to each other in how small they compress down. Thanks for watching my friend.

I love being in the woods and nature but trying to sleep in that little tent that night all by myself was a little too creepy for me that night. Although I have not redeemed myself yet with another solo trip. I will probably do that this winter. The woods don't get creepy until I try to go to sleep and then I hear everything and I feel like if something attacked me I would be trapped in a tent..,lol So I thing for solo trips I'm gonna try a tarp and maybe some cowboy camping. I get too clostophobic in those little tents when I'm out there by myself.

I found the info quite usefull. Thank you. I've been looking for that system to sleep outdoors as well, but considering the price, it's a tight buy, and I'm also really anxious of which one to choose from. I would have a question : Between the light bed and core bed, which one has the nicest feel (as for the material). Zenbivy told me the zenbivy bed is way more confy than the light one, but to which point ? I missed your flextail giveaway ! Well, I'll continue to follow your channel, so we'll see if I get another chance next time.
@DryBonesOutdoors Жыл бұрын
Hey..,thanks for watching the video and following the channel. Unfortunately when it comes to a good solid sleep system your gonna spend some money, but the biggest question is what trade offs are you willing to take for what you are looking for. The more comfortable the sleep system the more it weighs and the lighter it is the less comfortable it can be. Then there's warmth factor that you also have to consider. For the money, I believe that the Core checks off a lot of boxes without there being huge trade offs. The main difference I've found between the Core Bed and the Light Bed is packability due to the CB being synthetic and LB being mostly down. The LB is a little bit lighter and packs down smaller. As far as comfort goes, they are both so comfortable I can't tell much difference between the two. Pairing it with the right pad is essential as well. I wouldn't recommend the pad that in this video. If you're looking for a good pad that won't break the bank I would check out the Oblivion by Outdoor Vitals, but the Light Mattress from Zenbivy is really nice but it is $200. If you got the Core Bed regular 25 inch wide sheet & quilt and paired it with a 25 inch Oblivion the total price would be $393 which is the normal range for a really good sleep system. I do understand that is a huge price and I suggest continue to research sleep systems in that price range to what fits your needs. Just don't make the same mistake I made and continue to waste money on sleep systems that are budget but end up being a huge waste of money. I could've bought a really nice sleep system for the money I've wasted on cheap gear.
