I appreciate the Donner cut but let's be honest. To have made the plot work they'd have had to also change the first movie to put the time travel where it belonged. Lester wasn't ideal but doesn't deserve so much vitriol: Donner had a bloody toilet joke in his version of the fortress of solitude! Erasing the content of both movies by having Donner's time travel at the end of S2 would have indulged a terrible Hollywood trope. Can't we simply be glad we got a brilliant movie in theatres AND got to see amazing alternative scenes such as Kal-El getting his powers back by the sacrifice of his father?

Now my favorite Spidey is Tobey but I always thought Andrew COULD HAVE BEEN the best Spiderman if the writing and movies were handled better. Now I think the first one is great but 2nd definitely dropped the ball. Which sucks because in my opinion I think this movie is the best looking one. In terms of shots, angles, lighting and other stuff lol. Like damn dude when you look at the shots with Peter on buildings or when he is swinging DAMN DUDE IT IS GORGEOUS!

The movie traumatized me as a kid. Still does, and I think it would have traumatized me more with all the deleted scenes.

So far, so good. At least we got a good look in the original storyboard version of Peter removing the suit how Venom was going to look before they were going to use CGI instead of the awesome animatronic. Honestly, if there was a way to send Sony an email asking them to release the original Venom's death scene with Eddie from their archives as well as the other four endings. Hopefully someday, Warner Brothers will make a definitive cut of Superman 2 using the best of both Lester's & Donner's footage and the extended deleted scenes. (minus most of Lester's slapstick)

With all the technologies like the ones used in Star Wars 7 to "revive" Carrie Fisher, a deepfake of the cast would be as good as the Snyder's Cut brang to Justice League after its release ... And damn I've been for month listnening back to "Signal Fire" and the symbolic would have hit collateral. The song speak about the fact that no matter how powerful you could be, no matter the hero you are, the hero you need for yourself are only people you are close to ... With sandcastle and Penny saving Peter at the end, it would have made a parrallel between Peter forgetting how important MJ is for her, and needed to be close to lose her in order to don't forget it, and then having Sandman, who began crime to be able to heal his daugther, feeling like her hero by doing that, and then realize he was doing it only for himself, then changing his mind and become a better father to her ... MJ would've been Peter Signal Fire to remind him that he doesn't own her, and Penny would've been Marko Signal Fire to remind him that she'd been happier spending her shorted life with him at her side than behind a plexiglass "wall" in jail ... Thus yes, I do agree with you all, Spiderman 3 could've been the best movie of the trilogy, but still want to believe than it could be with a Raimi's cut ❤️‍🔥

Richard Lester had directed the Musketeers films for the Salkinds as one film and had not been properly paid. He became an intermediary for Donner and an unaccredited producer to get the recompense for the original lack of payment. Lester offered a joint director credit to Donner who refused saying he would not take a joint credit and had also refused ever to work with Spengler again, and to get the DGA credit had to reshoot 70% of the film. Hackman never returned after the first film and Lester had to work round the Salkinds refusal to fully recompense Brando. Superman 2 received BETTER reviews than the first one, not least as the origins story required an hour of screen time before Reeves makes his first appearance and another 20 minutes before he flies. I am not saying either films were better or worse but there is a context to Lester taking over the reigns.

That venom death scene recreation while quite dark would’ve been awesome. The sand castle scene was genuinely beautiful too, it humanized the Sandman more. Man.. This movie was wasted potential.
