The DJI mic actually has a way you can lock the wired lav by routing the cable behind the clip mechanism! Also, the adapter makes it invaluable for Sony shooters as no wires are needed! And lastly, the Amaran Ace 25c is probably the better pick than the Aputure MC!
@HenrysCameras
@HenrysCameras Ай бұрын
Sure that'll work! But if I wrap an XLR cable around a top handle it's not going to come out if I yank on that as well. But I still wouldn't call that a locking cable ha ha ha :). We do sell the Amaran Ace but customers still choose Aputure because of the strong brand and just online awareness. KZbinrs went nuts for that MC when it came out and the demand continues on! The Amaran Ace is a good alternative though!

@HenrysCameras I agree! The Ace is a newcomer but I just picked it up and it is one BRIGHT little light! I hope they bring more accessories out for it though. And after years of talking with Aputure, I'm excited for the rebrand of Amaran to become the creator level light!

I'm the first the say that I have little experience in video (I'm a portrait photographer first and video second). I would say that I've seen "cinematic" looks from iPhones, Pocket 3's, both 8 & 10 bit cameras. What this means (to me) is that it's not about the megabits-per-second; it's about the lighting and composition.

As someone who has used microphones all the way from the ribbon RCA BK-5B to the top end Neumann mics and everything in between, it should be pointed out that most KZbinrs including YT leaders typically don't know diddly-squat about audio and microphones. I have never heard more top end microphones sound absolutely horrid, such as the Shure SM7B. I have the original Shure SM7 and I got it because it sounds like a condenser microphone for the higher frequencies and sounds like a mellow ribbon microphone for the mid and lower frequencies. Yet, far too many Tubers make it sound like a $2 microphone full of distortion. If you want a studio mic that is hard to make sound terrible but doesn't sound great, either: Try the EV RE20. It's an all purpose mic that many radio stations use for on-air work. Broadcasters, both radio and television and many recording studios don't use Rode mics. They just don't. I won't say anything bad about them, if you know how to use microphones. Rode flooded YT with free microphones, that's the only reason you see them on YT. I agree with using most Sennheiser microphones, especially the shotgun mics. I use the Audio Technica ATR 6550 shotgun on my camera. I changed the mono mini plug to a stereo mini plug and plug it directly into the camera. If I am using my video camera I record audio separately into a Zoom H6 so that I can use professional microphones with XLR connectors. Currently I am using for my studio microphone the Audio Technica AT2020 Cardioid Condenser Microphone. To the ear, not test equipment, it sounds like the $7,000 Neumann microphone. Some folks think it's not a sturdy microphone, I DISAGREE! It does need phantom power from a mic pre-amp or most portable mixing boards. For interviews I use the EV 635A and know it will pick up everything. If I have to watch out for noise I will use the ATR 6550 with an XLR adapter. Other than the EV SM58 mic you use my recommendations will sound better and cost less than the equivalent Rode mic and will be more rugged. As Tubers actually learn about audio we will see them drift away from Rode. This is a good first start video for learning about audio, just substitute my suggestions for Rode and you should be able to do good audio right out of the box. Not great, but good. Again: Good Video.

@Original_Old_Farmer Ай бұрын
I like videos both ways. Yes, I like all tech stuff, but not in every video. I would say treat it like a fine spice. I was looking at Canon when camera shopping, but they started playing games. They forget that the buyer has the final 'No.' So as someone that started with 35mm film, then 16mm movie film, my first video camera shot 1080 video and 4K stills. The camera still works, but it is 15 years old and parts of it are failing. So I looked to Fujifilm. I need a flippy screen, even for photography so that disqualified many. If the XT5 had a flippy screen, I would have gotten it. Instead I got the X-s20. Basic shooting in video or stills, I'll match anyone, it's the fancy stuff this camera does that I have a steep learning curve. I've shot too many fires and automobile accidents and have to learn to get past this mindset. I learned a lot in this video, but cinematic really comes down to lenses and filters and appropriate lighting. Ken Burns over at PBS shot his first documentaries with 16mm film. If you really want to fake movie style shoot 24 frames per second, but I won't watch it. Good video!

Fujifilm X-H2[S]: 720Mbps max for H.265 All-I or longGop 422. 4kHQ etc. I didn't know it was such a big deal. Surely other brands can do this too? I assume other brands can output blackmagic etc raw video from the HDMI port to a recorder too?
@HenrysCameras
@HenrysCameras Ай бұрын
Ya that is a camera that we loved when we shot our initial test. Great dynamic range and a big improvement over the previous models. Was the 720MBPS in 24FPS? Did you happen to catch that? I like to check in 24FPS because thats your standard video recording format. Sometimes they list them in 120P so naturally because there is more frames, there will be more MBPS. I forgot to mention that camera but it was sweet when we first saw the video on that one!
@Paul_Rohde
@Paul_Rohde Ай бұрын
@@HenrysCameras I can look on the X-H2, but I assume it would have to be the same for the X-H2S. For H265 only, in either All-I or Long GOP, in either 420 or 422, yes, at 24P [HQ], data can be saved at 720Mbps. Though there are more options for LongGOP. There is also internal ProRes anyway. But personally, in response to 'influencers', 17:9 (or whatever), and 24p is not what makes something cinematic! It's the content and cinematography that matters! 24p is a century old choice for the absolute minimum to save film costs. I can't stand it. I feel like my eyes are being painfully poked when watching a 24p film projection in a cinema. We've moved on to colour and talkies, and 24p needs to be left to history too, and it should have happened a long time ago. Just compare to digital TV, or computer gaming for a reality check.

@Wildridefilms
@Wildridefilms Ай бұрын
I really disagree with the premise of the video that bitrate is the biggest factor in determining video quality or usable dynamic range. First off, you have inter frame compression (IPB) where only every 8th frame is a full resolution JPG and the other 7 are only recording changes in the frame, and intra frame (All-I) compression where every frame is a full resolution JPG. Intra frame compression is significantly less efficient, but is immune to motion compression artefacts unlike inter frame (IPB) compression and also easier to edit. So an intra frame compression codec needs at least 3 times the bitrate to preserve a similar level of detail. Then you have the compression format (h.264, h.265, vp9, AV1, etc.) which determine how efficient each frame is compressed. h.264<vp9<h.265<AV1 in terms of efficiency but the order is reversed when it comes to ease of editing. So a h.264 intra frame compression codec like ProRes is very inefficient and thus needs a very high bitrate to avoid compression artefacts but is very easy to edit. Whereas a h.265 inter frame compression is extremely efficient and can avoid compression artefacts with significantly lower bitrates in comparison to ProRes (about 8x lower) In my opinion, these are the largest determining factors for video image quality of a camera. Sensor size, sensor technology, bit depth, recording format.
@HenrysCameras
@HenrysCameras Ай бұрын
I completely agree with you on this and everything you mentioned here is true. But it is so much easier to understand everything that you mention by just reading bitrates. When you change through the codec's your bitrate changes. Ya you could read up on what the heck H.265 and H.264 and IPB and ALL I codec but for the more simple folk (clearly you know your stuff so that's certianly not you) Bitrates are WAY easier to understand. The higher the number.... the better. If you want max quality.... you want a codec that has a higher bit rate. That's WAY easier to understand then trying to walk through everything you just did. Even if you are right. Thanks for the comment tho! Was worried we were getting toooooo in the weeds with this video but you kept up and took it way further. Good to know who's in the audience.
