They probably will win their lawsuit against this city. They do not like what these citizens are saying, but they have the right to say it. Pick a city council across the US, and you will find people saying much worse in public comment. Here in my city, I see little old ladies go up at EVERY city council meeting just to blast the council. Blanchard and this mayor are thin-skinned little cry babies. This is nothing compared to what is said in other cities' meetings. Just let public comment continue, take your notes, make note of actual business, and let the meeting go on so you can get to the day's agenda. If you can't handle someone in your town disliking you, then you should never have run for the spot. This display of arresting folks in public comment is a waste of everyone's time and city resources.

The city council members let their egos override their professionalism. They will lose this lawsuit as it is already well established in case law. This is why they are called "public servants" and not "royalty." Public officials must not forget that they, too, must follow rules... and this city council is obviously out of control.

Who would think it's okay to be an ahole in a public setting like that? This is what we've come to? No decorum, no couth, no class. By the way, the lawsuit will go nowhere. Council meetings are limited public forums and the council is permitted to establishe reasonable rules, like prohibiting disorderly conduct and swearing. All the idiot lawyer did was get his client arrested and waste taxpayer money to defend a baseless lawsuit. The lawyer should be censored at a minimum. Bet he doesn't try that in court.

Everyone in the vid is wrong. If he would have spoke respectfully then he would of won all argument. When he started cussing at them, that gave them the excuse to have him removed for any reason. I have to talk to people I don't like sometimes but I talk to them respectfully. You get a lot more done doing it the clean way.

Iirc cities have the right to distinguish their public comment period as they see fit as long as it isn’t limited on the grounds of protected speech or grounded elsewhere (racial/religious discrimination) I’m no lawyer though…

I watched this in dismay several times. I have followed over the yrs the tremendous work Mr. Hawthorne has done in many cities and the changes that occurred under his guidance. When you have this type of unprofessionalism at this level it shows there is corruption deeper than shown on the surface.
