This is going to sound odd but I actually prefer the panel mounted trim on the RV-12 vs the stick mounted trim on the 12is. The way your arm rests on your leg, the trim is way up on the top of the stick and I actually find myself adjusting it with my right hand, of all things. The other thing that’s odd is the electric flaps. They’re continuous so you can find yourself with inconsistent flap settings until you get a really solid routine in place. But in every other way, the 12is is a superior aircraft, imo. The Piper style throttle is easier to manipulate and the fit/finish of everything just SEEMS nicer (in the one I’ve flown at least), etc. The 12is I’ve flown in also has a 2 axis autopilot so that’s a nice little feature that many of bare bones 12s don’t have.

That's wrong, the visibility isn't any better than any other plane in that category. The DA20 and DA40 is better actually because the pilot is seated further forward near the leading edge of the wing. Those huge wings take up a lot of the downward and lower rearward view. Also, why would Vans not switch to a flush rivet installation instead of the standard rivets?

Fastest plane in our EAA Chapter. While the rest of us are flying homebuilts at breakneck speed and stopping for fuel every two or three hours, Juergen is flying non-stop at 120 kts and landing first at the destination. Great guy and a wealth of knowledge on Pacers.

Not a Pacer Where did you hide the oil cooler ? Very nice !
@s10belowu2 жыл бұрын
Probably back left on the engine. I'm pretty sure the o-290 and 0-235 versions on the early ones have them on the back of the engine. My 1950 originally had it there and the front cowl had to be modified per the STC to move it up front for the 0-320. I also came across one that had a field approval for the 0-320 that moved the oil cooler to the back left of the engine. A block plate was bolted into the oil cooler cowl.

Has this, has that, has this paint, takes off in so much number of feet, quick build, but at the end of the day, It still sounds llie a snowmobile. Do you think anyone would ever buy a Harley Davidson if it sounded like a snowmobile? As much as these things cost, I want a real 2000 hour TBO airplane engine installed In my airplane please.

The handling of this plane is amazing! It literally flies like it is on rails. To give you an example, when you put the plane into a turn, you don't even have to put your feet on the pedals, the ball stays in the center of the slip indicator. Great plane, not only to fly, but to build!
@michaell98113 жыл бұрын

@tonyunderwood94383 жыл бұрын
Side stick is very natural, and makes for a very clean cockpit. If you think about it, when you're flying with a standard yoke configuration, you have your left hand on the yoke lifting up and down and right hand on the throttle, so a side stick is much more natural movement.
