Really enjoyed watching your process. I'm also a big fan of oils. Was thinking of getting into 3D printing next year, so I was wondering, what printer do you use?
@PaintByBlunders6 күн бұрын
Thank you so much. I love 3D printing. I’m going to do a video on how I’d go about it if I could go back haha. I use a Saturn 2 by elegoo. It’s an older printer now but still great. My suggest would be get a medium printer with a 9in (ish) build plate the entry machines are so so small and not really worth the time imo. And I’m in love with oil paints 🤣

What is the winston paint called? :)
@PaintByBlunders9 күн бұрын
“Veridian Hue” It’s fairly dark but you can add white and make it perfect for ever y tone of bronze and verdigris. I believe they do a lighter one but it’s much more expensive.
@garethnichols355515 күн бұрын
I see you use Vallejo already, try the Vallejo white over the grey it's a little brighter and goes over well ( I use the old game colour I have had for around a decade...)

What would you recommend for a dark blue on the cloth, I’m starting cities for Christmas and I really liked this guide but I’m not a fan of the cloth color
@PaintByBlunders19 күн бұрын
So it depends how “dark” you want to go but I absolutely love pro acrylics “blue” but it’s very mid tone as a blue. But it shades really well so you can use it as the highlight. I did a video of an ultramarine with it. I wouldn’t recommend watching the video but you’d see the tone in the thumbnail. If it’s a darker you are after Parisian blue from AK is a lovely tone as well.

does contrast work on gold paint? I tried a similar scheme to this, used viking gold by scale and it was ok. Gave it a purely black oil wash but it didnt come out brilliant.
@PaintByBlunders20 күн бұрын
Yeah it should do? I’ve used rattling grime and the sewer contrast on gold ,both worked. Hmmm I’ll ask about to see if anyone’s had trouble.

What is the brand of paint you used to paint the green ones? What is that shade of green? I love it

Both are Games workshop paints. It’s death world forest as a base. Then a light spray of Elysian Green over the top. 👌
@elitetrooper119Ай бұрын
@ So as an experienced painter to a novice who hadn’t painted a single model yet, you would say GW paints are reliable and worth the money? I keep hearing people say different things about different brands and it’s got me uneasy and unsure of which brands to use or how with. I will definitely be buying those two for sure. I think I want to make a few Tau fire warrior and Pathfinder squads that green color. It looks amazing.
@elitetrooper119Ай бұрын
@ what did you use to prime them? I was told to prime mine with white.
@PaintByBlundersАй бұрын
@@elitetrooper119I’ve just used mecha primer from Vallejo in black. You can prime any colour but I like black the deepest parts I can’t get a brush in stays black and is “hidden” like an intentional shadow. At least to my eyes anyway 😂
@PaintByBlundersАй бұрын
@@elitetrooper119so GW have some awful paints in their range and also some of the best. For instance their white paints IMO are not great but maphiston red and Fenrisian grey are two of my favourites. Also if you are heavy into airbrushing some people hate that they come in a pot and not a dropper bottle. I personally love a pot haha. Other great brands AK interactive 3rd gen are brilliant Pro acrylic are one of my favourites but they have my least favourite bottle by far. If I could only have three brands it would be those 3. Vallejo model colour does some amazing staples as well. You can paint well with all of them it’s just finding those tones and how they work for you.

@PaintByBlundersАй бұрын
Thanks so much. I had no issues layering them with the dagger but I wasn’t really pulling any paint away to expose the underneath. (Runs to the printer to print a test model haha) I love playing around with these paints.

Not a fan of Dirty Down, too finnicky and needs varnishing or it just doesnt stand up to wargaming. Oils are great though, basically idiot proof. Which is good for me.

My favorite is dirt cheap craft paint (Apple Barrel seafoam) because it's low pigment density means it keeps some transparency when you add a watery layer into the recesses.

@MrPigmentsАй бұрын
You can make oil paints dry much quicker by adding a siccative into them like an alkyd medium, depending on pigment it can take about a few hours to a day. It doesnt work super well with winton because of the low pigmentation and high wax content in those though.
@PaintByBlundersАй бұрын
Owwww I love this! Thank you I’ll have a look into it. I’ve heard Windsor are good beginner oils. Is there any you’d recommend
@johannisson77Ай бұрын
Let the dirty down dry and then go in with a wet brush. You can move it around, expose some areas down to the copper. With water you can basically remove it all or push it into recesses if that is the effect you want. It is like activating oils with thinner. But only using water. The oils can be put on a piece of cardboard first to let some of the oil wick out, only like 5-10 minutes or so, then they will dry so much faster. Also heat and sunlight helps to cure them faster.
@PaintByBlundersАй бұрын

Try going over the Dirty down with a wet brush after you apply it. This does a couple things. It removes the paint from flat areas, pools it in crevices, and thins it out in areas to get the lighter color. It looks very authentic when you do this.
@machoothАй бұрын
You can achieve some of these brighter verdigris hues with the Dirty Down product by adding water to it. Either mixed in the product during application, after application as it dries, or after it's dried.

If you look at copper roofs, they are all completly "green", there are no streaks or patches. The house roofs in Copenhagen are 2-300 years old and are almost uniform green. Imagine a statue 1000 years old.

Ive spent the last few months doing skaven and beoming as intimate with aged copper as I can, and the worst thing i try and avoid that i see all the time on peoples models is having the verdigris be a single color or splotchy, the dirty down one fixes this- but so far my best method is varying all 3 of these, some over a stipped pattern underneath for heavier weathering- doing a darker green oil/somthing like corelia greenshade or a dark turquiose paint then using Nikal oxie to brighten small spots looks pretty nice.
@PaintByBlundersАй бұрын
So I made this video after painting up some Skaven and a few props. And I totally agree using the best bits of all three is a real winner.
