Munich and Garmisch-Partenkirchen were my old stomping grounds when I was stationed in Bad Tolz! Truthfully, I didn't like Oktoberfest. I found it to be too crowded. I thought the HofBrauHaus was much better. BTW- the name of the other trail to the top of the ZugSpitze is Partnachklamm. I ascended the mountain by that route twice.
@HelenandTimTravel8 күн бұрын
Thank you for your service. What an experience to live there. We only went for a few hours to Oktoberfest during the day which wasn’t too bad in terms of crowd, but by the time we left in the afternoon. We heard good things about Hofbrauhaus was fun. We have only been there for dinner. Thanks for the trail name and info. We will have to attempt it at another point. Thanks for watching ☺️

Well done and nice commentary. How is the cellular phone service while traveling there? Refueling stations and cost? Thanks for sharing. What a blast you guys are having.
@HelenandTimTravel8 күн бұрын
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed watching ☺️ We used an eSIM with Airalo and found the service worked really well. The gas was pretty pricey! Trying to remember per liter. Think it was between $1.80 to $1.90ish per liter when we were there. It’s expensive because of their high taxes on fuel. We have a referral code for thr eSIM for your cell phone if you want to try it out Use code HELEN3030 when you sign up or check out. ref.airalo.com/svpC

I have to say, my favorite Nepalese dish while I was there was those yak beef Momos. I tried it the first time after finishing my Kathmandu Valley trek (my -'warm-up' trek for the Annapurna Circuit) in Bhaktapur -oh, my God, so good, especially with that sauce......

Are there spots to charge your devices and camera batteries at every camp?
@HelenandTimTravel26 күн бұрын
Some of our rooms had electricity, but they would only be on for a couple hours here and there usually before bed fine. We had solar powered chargers that helped charge our phones during the day. Electricity is hit or miss

2000 Nepalese rupee for a room?thats ridiculous. I did this trek in 2010 and the rooms would range between 150-500 rupees depending on how high up you are in altitude.
@HelenandTimTravelАй бұрын
Yeah it’s definitely more expensive now with the popularity of the Annapurna trek and accessibility of the jeep road. Wow 150 to 200 is a steal

I did this in 2001 and we started up river and went over that waterfall! It was awesome. Was shocked at how deep we went under and then the buoyancy brought us to the surface.

I didn't know the atori gate was a symbol for US paratroopers. Dad was also a paratrooper stationed in Japan during its US occupation after world war II. I remember seeing his bronze pin. He didn't talk about it much except about his drill sergeant. Maybe that's why he became sort of a drill sergeant himself?

I made it with Intrepid as far as Thorong Phedi before severe altitude sickness forced me to turn back to Manang, and then by vehicle from there to Besishahar, and then Pokhara where I reunited with my Intrepid group. This was in September, this year.
@HelenandTimTravelАй бұрын
We are sorry to hear that 😔Dealing with altitude can be tough and it’s definitely l the safest to get you down quickly when dealing with those symptoms. Glad you were reunited with your group.
@1101millie9727 күн бұрын
@@HelenandTimTravel Thanks. How did you overcome altitude sickness to finish your trek? Was it mainly taking altitude sickness pills the travel doc prescribed you as soon as you started? I am guessing my decision to take them only as soon as I started feeling symptoms (which was probably far too late) is a key reason for why I fell by the wayside...
@HelenandTimTravel26 күн бұрын
We overcame altitude sickness by going down to lower elevation. We started taking altitude medication a couple days before going over the pass while we were acclimatizing. Of course always consult with your doctor, but we did what worked best with the recommended dose and when to take it. Everyone reacts different to altitude and sometimes it can come on without warning. Glad our team overall managed to avoid altitude sickness beyond the digestion issues and upset stomach

Hi! Great video! This is very helpful! Tho I do have some questions that I hope you can help. Im also planning a Day Hike/Run in May of 2025 but im far too concerned with the transportation schedules. I heard that theres only 1 trip per day from Alishan to Tataka, but it seems you got there in the afternoon based on the time details shown in the video. How did you get there? And how did you go back to Alishan after the trek? Subscribed here btw! Best of luck!
@HelenandTimTravel11 күн бұрын
It seems like there were a few local buses operating from Alishan. You just have to check the schedule and buy your ticket in the 7-11 right by the bus stop. We were going to take a bus back, but got info we could hire a taxi that the Dongpu lodge set up for us, so that is what we opted for. We actually got offered rides from a local, but we were going different directions :) We always find using Rome2Rio very helpful: www.rome2rio.com/map/Alishan/Dongpu-Station-Taiwan#trips. Gives you the bus numbers and routes, as well as times if you sign up for an account. Good luck! Apologies for our delay in responding. Let us know if you have any other questions
