🧭 ABOUT US
Hi! We are Helen and Tim. We are adventure travelers who saved up some money to travel full-time in Jan 2023. We are based in Portland, Oregon, and have been together for over 10+ years and share a love for the great outdoors through hiking, camping, skiing, and more! We grew up in Dallas, Texas (Helen) & DuBois, Pennsylvania (Tim).
Our goal is to hike the world one mountain at a time. We love to inspire people to get outdoors whether the adventure is big or small. Post-hike, we enjoy the local flavors and foods, and a cold drink (beer for Tim and kombucha for Helen).
There is so much in the world to see, even if it is in our own backyards. We started filming our adventures in the PNW and that has evolved into filming our international travels.
Thanks so much for watching! We will see you on the next trail! 🥾

Romania is another underrated country in our full-time travel journey. We truly had a blast in Romania. Not only did we geek out on the medieval history and the castles, but the mountains were quite scenic. Definitely add Romania to your list. What did you think of Romania? Would you add it to your travel list?

Thank you, guys, from my heart for this amazing travel vlog about such a mysterious country that nobody talks about in the West. The landscapes are breathtaking, the food is so delicious, and the history is so rich and the culture is so mixed up, Romania being at the border between West and East and taking different influences. Your editing was top notch, I stayed alert and interested all the time !! I subscribed to you - you deserve it. Keep rolling. :)

Thanks! ☺️We appreciate you mentioning and letting us know. We more so used Brasov and Sibiu as our travel hub and base camp in Transylvania, so we called the video our Transylvania road trip. We found on Wikipedia “Peleș Castle is a Neo-Renaissance palace in the Royal Domain of Sinaia in the Carpathian Mountains, near Sinaia, in Prahova County, Romania, on an existing medieval route linking Transylvania and Wallachia.” Cool stuff!

Amazing, you answered all the comments. So nice, so polite, what a nice feeling to see that. The video is too short for how long the trip lasted, but it is pragmatic and with a lot of useful information, even if some of them are a little different than how they were presented, but don't bother, it's fine. Next time, try the bean soup (ciorba) with smoked pork knuckle served on a plate, not in bread. You will see that it is much tastier because it is more liquid. Nice to have you because you are doing a better job than our Minister of Tourism. Thanks!

Everyone coming here says it's not okay to feed the bears, but that's how we build the bond. If they get hungry enough they can try to attack campers for their food, so it's better to keep them well fed and friendly. Although we have the highest number of bears in Europe, the bear attacks are very rare so we must be doing something right.

In a nutshell, the Ottomans were fighting the Austro-Hungarian Empire and the romanian countries (Wallachia, Moldovia, Transylvania) were in the way. Ottomans conquered Moldovia and Wallachia and needed someone to rule the regions and pay tribute. Vlad Tepes was raised at the sultan court, he was military trained by the ottomans and was named the ruler of Wallachia. Because he knew how ottomans fought, he rebelled against the ottomans and had a few victories.

Sorry but it's a bit unfair to say about the influences of the neighbours cuisine over the romanians dishes culture as long as the older and the larger culture in the area from Anatolia to the Baltic sea is the Thracians or Getae culture, as the Greeks use to call them but they use to call themselves "rumâni or râmâni. So all the others came much later and to find the same dishes to all of them is much probably an older culture where the common elements are the Thracians and the Getae peoples. The Greeks came 3500 years ago and they wrote about finding there the "pelasgians", the south branch of the Thracians, same culture with the Minoan and Trojan culture. The Turkish came about 800 years ago the romans conquered a quarter of Dacia (the today Romania area)1900 years ago but they suppose to teach all the Dacians habitants Latin language, from South of Germany to south of Ukraine, a large area having a lot of habitants living on the rivers unaccessible valleys without any importance for them. To deny such a big and old culture which is still visible on the traditional clothes and wood carved gates and buildings, the myths, the legends and the sustainable way of life is just a matter of hegemony of the new culture which replaced it, the culture of patriarchal insted of matriarchy, a culture of money, possession and authority instead of shearing everything, fair changes and peace which characterised the old Europe.

The castle was built in 5 years not in 650 years as you said.

You are right, it was completed in 5 years 😀We read in the museum while in the castle it was under construction across 650 years because of renovations, add ons, etc.

careful with the bears because they cant shot them anymore because of the environmentalists. now there are too many bears who became aggressive because there is not enough food for them.

I don't understand why all tourists are surprised that there is 'Uber' in Romania. Big deal! It has been around for at least 10 years, there's also Bolt, and there are even other ridesharing apps that work exactly like Uber or Bolt but for regular, classic taxis.

Just an observation 😀 we don’t live there and it was our first time visiting. Each country also have their own ride sharing and not everyone we have visited has Uber.

Vlad II Dracul was Vlad III (Drăculea) Țepeș' father. He got his nickname from Emperor Sigismund's Order Of The Dragon, a Crusader Christian order meant to unite Christian countries against the Ottoman Empire. Vlad Țepeș (The Impaler) and his cousin, Ștefan cel Mare (Stephen the Great) kept Europe safe from Ottomans and criminals for which We, Romanians, are eternally grateful. The Irish book character Dracula is not even mentioned in schools here, you have to really, really hate history to poison yourself with that rubbish. Ireland should make some Disney fake castle and charge money and leave Queen Marie's (Bran) castle alone.

Also, Town = < 2500 citizens, while Bucharest has 2 million and its a Capitol, Brașov about 250.000, Sibiu about 140.000 and so on. And that doesn't take in account the millions of tourists every year. What surprises tourists is when they go to the Black Sea resorts and they find out that those aren't actually cities inside the city and county of Constanța, but mere villages with A LOT of hotels and terraces.

And about the last part, there are free bus rides that take you to Bucharest Therme Spa and back, they have the schedule on the Therme stations or online and they have the Therme logo on them. Enjoyed your journey, come again, you have only scratched the surface! Noroc!
