Exactly .. eBay used to have promoted ad when sending offers.. I though good but that doesn’t happen now! I send an offer thinking my fee would be $3 but after an hour after sale that turns to promoted with another $4 to them and it’s total cost shipping too .. we are really being fleeced! I had to change all my shipping since we don’t get the credit they pas it in to customer.. now all my sales are promoted so I had to increase my prices! Otherwise it’s not profitable WE BECOME THE MONEY COW FOR EBAY & WE DO ALLLLLL THE WORK! I’ve been onto eBay about this a few times but bottom line they can add the fee upto an hour after sale or longer .. I can see at some point a class action! I just hope they fix it before then! Or just being upfront in an email not disclaimer with a word salad ..

Im living proof that posting daily is a Myth. I injured my knee back in March and was pretty much unable to walk and im still struggling even now. I did not LIST for 9 weeks. You cant photograph, source and run a biz properly when you cant walk properly. Thats right, May was my best month ever on Ebay and Poshmark yet i did not list one item from March to May. Go figure!

Im not sure why you cant see an offer coming though as promoted or not but on my listings it always says that this offer is coming from a promoted listing. If it says nothing i assume its not. It even tells me what state and zip the user is from.

I literally get 0 views after listing for 1-2 days and then only items that are multiple now get pushed and higher views! I get 1 in 6 get views lots finish with no views! It’s very very fraudulent in my opinion .. we used to have transparency on eBay 2013- before promoted so I know what that looks like! I used to run my business off numbers and where traffic was coming from! Now it’s so arse upwards manipulated that it’s impossible for us to read the data .. if my traffic came from google I would pay to advertise or if it came from Facebook I’d advertise it used to be very clear but now it is not! We could look at overseas traffic too ..🤷🏻‍♀️

I sell as organic and then it changes to promoted! Every sales in the last few days is promoted .. I share myself so where are my sales from my sharing, unless every eBay link even if I’m doing the work gets tagged as promoted!

I have thought the exact same thing. My theory is that this is eBay charges the promotional flat % no matter what regardless if it was a sale through promotions or not. The reason I have come to this conclusion is the same as what you talked about. Organic views shows a numerical value whereas promotional views is Zero. Item sells and it still sets as a promotional sell. I believe this is eBay's way of getting an average payout for getting more eyeballs on items across the entire platform and the who thing is based on trust on them to do the ethical thing on actually providing a valuable service. There needs to be a validator of some sort to actually verify if it is the direct result of the AD that caused the buy. Almost like the Amazon Affiliate cookie. As long as a buyer clicks on the Ad at some point within 24 hours it counts. Maybe this is the same way. Who knows. All I know is, this is a gray area if promotional ads is actually working or not. It should be easier for sure so that way a seller can make an educated decision to activate ads or not.

I've done several A/B tests with promoted listings in the past 4 years. Lets say I've been selling 100 items a week with no promoted listings at all. I start promoting and now I'm selling 110 items per week. However, Ebay will claim that that 90-100 of my sales are due to promoted listings. So in other words, they are just stealing money from us with promoted listings.

On counters - we are just going to have to assume it is promoted and at farthest distance

Yes, same here. 30 views, 3 promoted, sold as promoted. Plenty of examples in my sales from last two weeks. I've mentioned this in my last what sold video. I had +3 sales overall, comparing with previous week, but promoted sales went up from 11 to 24 items. They've basically repleaced a dozen of my organic sales with promoted sales. In terms of helo. Nomather what they click into, as long as it's promoted. Nomather, how they'll come back to you within 30 days, and buy something that you even don't promote, it's still promoted sale. Whatever they are doing with PL, I don't think that there's a dodgy stuff going on there. All they need is one whistle blower who was fired by them, and it's all in media. I think there's something that is perfectly legal, and makes our sales fall into promoted very easily. I have no idea what could that be.

I promote during the day for a high percent little to no sales then when I sleep the sales come in. I think it’s better to turn off promoted before you sleep so you get the free advertising without the fees.

I noticed June and July my eBay fees increased about 8%. All from promoted listings which I keep the ad rate under 3%. I would have organic sales that “magically” turn into a promoted sale hours later of the next day. This must be the “magical” innovation Jamie Iaonne is talking about. The opaqueness of the promotional fees is definitely questionable. Is this a eBay cash grab to make the earnings forecast every quarter? I watched the Q2 earnings call and all it was a screen shot of a one page PowerPoint slide. Jamie Ianonne did not go over any granular detail nor did their CFO. One anaylst ask what was their advertising “take rate”. Iaonne said eBay wants to double the “take rate” for Q3. Another analyst asked what eBay was doing to expanded their Buyer pool. Iaonne said they don’t care about Increasing the Buyer volume. All about focused categories and claiming an enthusiastic eBay buyer spends on the average of 3k a year. So in theory eBay wants to squeeze every dollar possible out of the Buyer and Sellers. Will eBay eventually be trying to squeeze blood from a rock? eBays general account principles is to not spend any money on advertising and take as much as they can from their Sellers. How many Sellers would drop eBay if there was a viable alternative platform.

Very Very Interesting video Jeff. I have to be honest I have never broken down the views from this data set. I feel that I should start reporting the sale views breakdown when (if) I get any and report that in the Stats N Stuff videos. Thank you for opening my eyes a little wider to this glaring issue. Hey Jeff how i handle promoted listings now i promote my entire store all 18k items, i do it based on Price anything under $20 is 5% anything over is 3% i also have MOST of my offers set to auto decline and auto accept so the offer coming is is the lowest im willing to accept and im already assuming it has a PL % attached to it if it does not all the better its just how we have to navigate the new eBay btw Update on my experiment i have not did a end and sell similar since June 1st my may was the best month i have had in a long time but even without doing end and sell similar in June and July both months were up compared to Jan Feb and March! those winter months are suppose to be the better times not the summer so Just for me summer has been good no summer slow down im excited to see what fall and winter bring because if spring and summer were this good im hoping to at least do double what i did in spring and summer (the 2 slowest times of the year) have not done anything different then list more consistently and again i started promoting in Nov 2023 so not sure if it just took a while for promoting to kick in. one thing Not doing end and sell similar and doing the same or better shows me you do not have to do end and sell similar to get sale from April till now my 90 day numbers have been up compared to Jan Feb march so amount of items sold and total Sales (gross)

I bet their algorithm is a random generator with like 30% chance that an item sold via promotion, maybe even more evil where more expensive items have higher % chance that Cassini will mark it as promotional sale. Why haven't you tried Mercari?

Last year I had 3,500 items listed and my Sales Conversion Rate was 1.2%,....I whittled my store down to 2,500 items this year and my Conversion Rate is still 1.2%(in fact, I've been at 1.2% for 6 years straight, -coincidence???). Out of my 2,500 items, about 2,200 items have at least 1 view,...but I end-and-sell-similar most of my items at least once per month. The number of the unbelievable anomalies I encounter on eBay in the last couple years is in the Thousands.

Out of the 35,000 items I"ve listed in the last 6 years, 33,000 have sold,....and I've NEVER done a promoted listing, and i've NEVER allowed a "best offer" either, etc. You don't need Promoted Listings. Promoted Listings "work" for a reason that most don't realize: Instead of your items being "promoted" to buyers, they are simply not "INVISIBLE" as much. BOOM!

My store has 750 total listings and about half are clothing items promoted at 2.6%. I never promote hard goods and only promote clothing to appease the algorithm. Surprisingly, I only pay about $10 in additional promoted fees on my $5K+ monthly sales.

I am stuck at my hidden sales cap level and I can't get my sales to go above that mark no matter what I do. I have tried increasing my listings, improving the quality of the listings, even adding known, high demand items. No matter what I try, I am always stuck within 3% of the same sales amount every month. Btw, it doesn't matter if I promote at 5%, 10%, 20% or use sales promotions, my store sales always remain the same. If I do have 1 great week, the next week will underperform so my average always stays the same.

Unfortunately calling in to eBay to have ANYTHING RESOLVED is WORTHLESS. If I REALLY have a problem I use eBay for business on Facebook. I send a message about my problem and someone usually gets back to me within a day and these people REALLY HELP YOU.

There are 460k listings with the word Bomber in the title. I understand you can't use "Velcro" when the product isn't actually made by the makers of Velcro. Understandable. But the word "Bomber" can't be protected. It's a common word. Any time I receive a VERO complain I contact the company. Exactly ZERO of the complaints were legit. The worst I got was, "we just didn't like the way you worded the title." I asked why a company who owned a trademark complained when the product was actually made by them. They couldn't say, they just made a VeRO claim because they felt like it. These types of complaints SHOULD result in that owner being suspended from the VeRO program! :P

I believe most sellers genuinely want to do the right thing. However, they treat everyone like morons. I've done a lot of work to learn how to ID counterfeits. I've called manufacturers. Some are glad to help but most are only interested in killing the secondary market for their goods. They mistakenly believe that will bolster new sales. However, I personally believe that products without secondary sales also have poor primary sales. For me I got hammered by VeROs when I first started 4 years ago, but now they seem to leave me alone.

I could watch this video weekly and feel exactly the same way EVERY WEEK! I’m $500 down on the week because eBay decided to change something that caused 8 million drop in traffic.. offers are not working! I’ve got two tickets in! Crazy! I’m sick of thinking what I can do to reset the algorithm.. I am going insane.., 😵‍💫🤯🤪

When shopping online do not click on or buy from sponsored ads. The more people that make this a habit the more these greedy companies will be forced to change tactics.

I would just like to say that i saw in your community tab, a post of you talking about low page views. Prior to seeing that i was watching this video and thought i would go see what kinda stuff you have listed. .. BUT .. no link or info to your ebay stores under this video and nothing under the Creator about page!! Maybe that is something to look into?? I would think that links or info to every store and platform your using would be readily available and easy to find. Not to say that those things might actually be on other videos... And ill be real... Im not going to go searching for that. Again just something to think about... Maybe!?!?

I believe anyone Ebay brings on as CEO, will be focused on stock price/shareholers, irrespective of sellers. What I mean is that unless sellers become a hot commodity, Ebay will continue on its present path. Ebay is on a perpetual path of attempting to bridge the gap between total revenue and dwindling sellers by leveraging an increasing percentage of current sellers revenue. Essentially, our profits are building that bridge. If Ebay stops now, their stock price would drop on a continual basis. If I were an Ebay seller, I'd be looking to expand to various platforms. It's not ever going get better. Why would it get better? Ebay's problem is one of lack of buyers, and ever increasing competition.

They have enough passive income from those of us who have been busting our butts but have STORES- if they just stopped bothering with getting us sales- especially those of us who have smalls and less expensive items- and we keep on keeping on because we're TRYING- we are paying them that store fee every month and they can get that without giving much in return! We have to pay it! I made less in 2023 than I've made in YEARS and with much more effort and crossposting and higher fees. I used to do this PT and sporadically list and had 1/3rd of the listings I have now and didn't have a store, and now I'm paying $60/mo and getting a fraction of the sales.

When they switch to this "mode" I just move my focus to other platforms. It's actually great because It's getting to the point where I don't really need to sell there anymore. This time I think I'll take the leap on to Depop which I have been tinkering with for a little bit. The funny thing is that I actually make more daily at my physical booth locally where the traffic is WAY WAY less.

A store in the UK middle tier only gets you 1500 listings and very little else.

What a nightmare it has been. I couldn't end my old promoting listing campaign. Every time they make a change it is always for the worst....
