We use ein for masculine or einen for masculine in german?
@HerrReidАй бұрын
Yes, ein when it is the subject of the sentence. It then becomes einen when it is the object of the sentence.

Urgent query, would really appreciate your help: My student is a homeschooled candidate appearing for her IGCSE German exam. I've been showing her past papers so that we can prepare accordingly. However, the speaking exam instructions in the past papers from 2020-2023 say that the student "cannot" take notes. I'm a little confused about this. Could you please share your thoughts? We've covered grade 1-10 German since Jan 2024 and she'll be appearing for her IGCSE speaking exam in mid-Sept. Would really appreciate your help. Thank you!

I am doing my German gcse next (yr 9) because I already speak German fluently and I will definitely mess this up and over/under complicate everything because I would never speak to anyone like that in Germany but this video really did help and I feel slightly prepared now! also do your notes have to be in English or can they be in German?
@HerrReid6 ай бұрын
Glad it helped - I'm sure you'll do great especially with your background. Just a case of knowing what the mark scheme wants! Notes can be in English but it's better to do it in German because then you can just read off your notes without having to think on the spot as it's pre-prepared.

General conversation is worth half the speaking - focus on that. Know your tenses - past, present and future, and also giving your opinion and saying why using words like "weil".

Will they branch out and link questions to theme 1 or theme 3 or strictly keep to theme 2 in general conversation if you nominated theme 2?
@HerrReid7 ай бұрын
Whichever theme you are discussing you have to stick to that theme strictly. After you have discussed your chosen theme for 2.5 - 2.5 mins then you have another discussion for the same amount of time on a surprise theme, which will be one of the other two themes.

Is that how much you need to say for high marks? If it is im cooked 😭
@HerrReid7 ай бұрын
You do need to extend your answers in the general conversation as much as you can to try and get all the variety of structures in that you can. But - you can prepare and memorise your answers to some common questions which helps a lot. Basically, make sure you can at least use three different tenses and try and give opinions and reasons as much as you can and you'll be fine.

For the first question on the photocard, is it acceptable to just say 4 back-to-back clauses without joining them? Do the markers award complexity or just simply if you have given 4 clauses? For example would this be sufficient to access full marks on the 1st question on the photocard in the video or do I have to add complexity: Es gibt einen Strand, Es gibt viele Menschen, Es ist sonnig, Es gibt viele Gebäude
@HerrReid7 ай бұрын
Yes that's fine, complexity of answers isn't specified, just that you include 3-4 clauses/sentences
