Hello Cody, another excellent video!!! Finally, for your experience and better performance. What brand of dual filters would you recommend and how many nanometers? For example: The Ascar color Magic, Altair Dual band 6nm or 4nm? I live in the City of Barcelona which could be a Bortle 8/9.. my equipment: APM 130/780 F/6 - ASI2600MC DUO - AM5 Thanks for your good advice in all your excellent videos.

Hi Cody, I just purchased a Evolution 8 that came with a free Starsense AutoAlign. Can I ask you what is your tablet of choice when performing an alignment with the SkyPortal app?. Thanks so much for your great tutorials!

Great review!! Thank you. Do you know if the Ethernet port can be used to transfer raw images? Would be nice to pull them straight to my NAS instead of futzing with USB sticks and having to move the files twice.

I’d get a strainwave mount, and avoid a CGX. There are much better options than the CGX in 2024. It’s not a bad mount, but just a lot better options now in my opinion.

Hi Cody! Great review! Price is definitely too steep. But I was wondering if you want to do nothing and see the pictures next day morning, why can't you just sleep in and download pictures on the Internet next day morning? I don't know what purpose do these automated telescopes serve!! Maybe the comment is a bit harsh but I was wondering why buy this at that price? You can buy rasa8 and a good mount for that price.

Thank you. Nearly 2 years ago, I was struggling to get my Celestron mount to cooperate with my ASIAIR. This video was the one saving grace that kept me from giving up all together. I searched for this video again today just to come back and thank you for proving a means for me to stick with it 2 years ago. I’ve had great success since and give you the credit. Cheers!

Is that Meade telescope the 10" f4 one? Would love to see the guiding performance on that particular scope without and with the counterweight. That would be interesting.

When you mentioned your friends and contacts at Celestron…I felt all objectivity go out the window. Feels a bit like an Ad, unfortunately. You get a 6” rasa…but cannot reduce or Barlow? At least you can use a filter, but with some 3D printing, you can do the same with a star or a dwarf. Trying to mentally justify that price, but you might as well build your own rig for just slightly more for all the flexibility it would offer….OR get a seestar/dwarf for outreach, etc. I wanna like it, but man that price

Origin costs too much at $4000 + tax and is a heavy behemoth. Dwarf 2/3 and Seestar S50 are compact, can get as good images at a 500 dollar price point.

It could happen to you. I was troubleshooting an issue with my Celestron Focus Motor (CFM) a couple of days ago. I reinstalled the driver/software. This necessitates recalibrating the device. While it was traveling to the zero point, it was making a knocking sound. Yikes! (There only $200+ these days) So I watched this video a couple of times to re-familiarize with the install process. Been years. (Thanks AstroBlender! Great video as always) So I got to the point where I was going to loosen the allen screws and found that they had moved behind the focus motor housing. ( 10:08 ) I could just barely see the set screw but did not have enough clearance to loosen it. The other screw was completely covered of course. Hmm, I tried just standing there staring at it but this didn’t seem to help. The cure. I took some needle nose pliers and cover the inside of the jaws with duct tape (thank you Vesta Stoudt) to protect the surface of the CFM. I was able to grip the housing (were the allen screws are located) and then by hand turn the shaft above it revealing both screws. No surface damage resulted in this step. Next I took the CFM off and inspected it. There was no visible damage or misalignments. So I replaced/reseated the CFM. Realigned the arrows ( 8:55 ) and tightened down the allen screws. Performed a calibration and there was no more knocking. All smiles here. Side note: I was not able to find the alignment wrench ( 8:00 ) but I was able to turn the shaft to the arrow alignment using a small crescent wrench.

Pretty sure they will just do the polar alignment with the standard evolution wedge. Costs around 400 dollars/euros. Not sure why this was not released software wise yet, seems like a simple mod.

NIce telescope, I have had a Nexstar 8 for 24 years and the electronics quit a year or so ago. I may get another Celestron 6 inch refractor. I like viewing planets. I will check the price of that scope. And consider it. Like the mount. Thanks so much for the video.Just checked and $4000 is more than I want to spend. But it is very nice telescope.

At 3:29 you switch the mount on and let it go the "first screen" on the HC - but it is impossible to read what that first screen (after "verifying packages" actually says. Mine says "AVXpress enter to begin alignment". Is that what your HC screen says? One leaves it at that first screen?

I think your reviews are good but very biased towards all celestron things which is a shame , the price of this smart telescope is way over priced. i say that as someone who has invested much into celestron . Pound for pound look at the Dwarf smart telescope or similar .

How so? I’m fine being criticized for valid reasons, and happy to review how I do things. I do agree it’s priced high. I’m sure that has to do with what you’re getting but also the substantial R&D that went into it. I don’t think the camera is a bad choice. With live stacking and good seeing, you get some great images. It does exactly what it’s advertised to do. I haven’t seen it advertised for planets, but I’d definitely avoid it for planets (for obvious reasons).

@@AstroBlender hi there I wasn’t really criticising you but I do think you only say the positives when it comes to Celestron, for instance I brought the Celestron motor focuser based on your review , now the focuser is just fine but trying to focus via the sky portal app is not easy , for what ever reason cpwi skips past my motor focuser . Now I find it unbelievable that products made by Celestron that should work perfectly together often do not. Is it just me, apparently not as a quick glance through cloudy nights will tell anyone who looks Undoubtedly you know your astronomy and are very good at it, and your instruction videos are excellent, I just feel when reviewing a product both positive and and negative should be said . Yes Celestron take a lot of time and money to produce their products, but so do Dwarf labs and other smart telescope makers . Now nearly all my equipment is Celestron, so I’m certainly not against the company . I just feel the price of the reviewed telescope is very expensive compared to what’s around . Clear skies to you.

I was hoping for a telescope that could do deep space objects as well as planetary photography and this one isn't good for planetary. So, I'll have to pass especially considering the cost. Thanks for the review!
@AstroBlender

Yeah, I definitely would not use the Origin for any serious planetary work. A Newtonian would be better suited for that task. Engineering a good smart planetary scope would be quite the challenge given the focal lengths involved.
