This is a promo for our D&D Live Play where we play "Baldur's Gate: Descent Into Avernus" ttrpg adventure module published in September of 2019 by Wizards of the Coast. There was some strong synergy between Larian and WotC when they designed the module, in that this adventure module is a prequel to BG3.

Interesting discussion. I'd just add a call-out for the folks who did the makeup for the orc characters - it always strikes me in some scenes how the actors could express emotions through all the prosthetics.

When you take into account Amazon 's insistence on 8 episodes and at 45-50 minutes each, I don't think we will ever see this scene on screen.

In all reviews here on KZbin regarding the wot adaptation, one aspect has not been talked about..the Great Lord..who he is, is he imprisoned, and if so how, did llt seal him up in the show, etc. He's only mentioned a couple times but never really delved into and no commentator has talked about that lack in the show. Thoughts anyone ?

MASSIVE fan of Peter F Hamilton here! And when I first sat down to watch LD+R, I practically jumped outta my seat at the title of the first episode, I KNEW it was Hamilton's story the moment it started.

The book was kind of meh. The movie altered the ending and made it worse! Ewan Mcgregor was too old for the part. Rebecca Ferguson was also miscast as Rose the hat is a) drop dead gorgeous and b) tough as an army general. 🤷🏻♀️
@CHESSZILLA11 ай бұрын
obvs not, is just a film of its own validity. the worst bits were the references to kubricks the shining

Dr. Sleep is a great movie. I love the parallels between Danny and Abra's relationship, and Danny and Dick's relationship. Abra is a great character and I also love Rose as the villian. The visuals were so good too. It's a shame it didn't get a bigger following. It's just as good as 1408.
@derkeheath517211 ай бұрын
No, it isn't. The best parts of the novel and movie are the energy vampires - that storyline is AWESOME. The Overlook Hotel parts are fan baiting, rushed, corny and half-assed in execution. King originally didn't connect the story to The Shining other than to have Danny as the main character. The publishers demanded that he add Overlook Hotel elements, and then Mike Flanagan said, "Hold my beer." I LOVE the first 3 hours and 15 minutes of the Director's Cut and then turn it off as soon as Crow Daddy dies.

Referring to the Rosamund Pike thing with the doorway and losing a star actor! I’m expecting with fewer seasons in the show that the time she will be gone will be really condensed. The four books where things slow down could be one season fora start. And even within that session she could come back even earlier than in the books?

You do an exposition, possibly via an Ogier and then ever$time you see something happening that is very Taveren you use a visual aid, like the dice in Matts head, or this color swirl the boys see when thinking about each other, or a more subtle sign, like them telling they really nred this or that and then make it happen in the same episode with a flashback of this need. But in general to explain Taveren the best are the Ogier, all of them, and Tom in the form of a Gleeman with many coloured patches.

I disagree with the person who thinks the only reason we have a WoT show is because of escapism. The only reason we have it is because Amazon wanted a show as a dry run for Rings of Power. RoP is a pet project for Jeff Bezos.
@WoTtheAdaptation11 ай бұрын
While I don't necessarily agree with you on that, I do respect your opinion and thank you for sharing it. Opinions on art will vary, that's fine.
@kathryncainmadsen585010 ай бұрын
I don't see good fantasy as escapism. To me it's psychology. So it's deep.
@WoTtheAdaptation10 ай бұрын
@@kathryncainmadsen5850 Even when it has deep meanings and says a lot about society and the like, all fiction is still escapism. Something can be both escapism and deeply thoughtful, they are not mutually exclusive traits.

Fain and Min were the most underused characters in the show
@andrewberenson571711 ай бұрын
I agree with Lauren's theories about Moiraine and Siuan. They were working together but Siuan was also compulsed. As an adaptation, it is a 5. But just because there is so much detail and stuff in the books it is impossible to have a true adaptation with the amount of episodes they have.
@WoTtheAdaptation11 ай бұрын
Yeah, Amazon really hamstringed Rafe and the other producers sticking them to ~1 hour episodes, and only eight seasons of eight episodes... I've said it a million times, this show deserves 7 seasons of 13 episodes each, with each episode running 70-90 minutes. *THEN* they would be able to the series more justice.
@andrewberenson571711 ай бұрын
Siuan was compulsed to put Rand in a cage.
@WoTtheAdaptation11 ай бұрын
That's a possibility, I don't deny it. I just personally don't think it is likely. But we will see.
@andrewberenson571711 ай бұрын
What happened to all of the Shanaran soldiers? Uno is the only one we saw die. Yet in Episode 8, we only see Ingtar and Masema.
@WoTtheAdaptation11 ай бұрын
I'm assuming the others were da'covale somewhere in the city or had been sent elsewhere. Some could also have been killed in the general mayhem when the Seanchan invaded Atuan's Mill, all before Uno "blew the horn." Yes, unnamed extras can and will die off screen.
@andrewberenson571711 ай бұрын
I think Kate Fleetwood did the best acting performance of the entire cast. My favorite scene. Egwene confronting Rena and ultimately killing her. They spent too much time with Alanna's family. They could have accomplished what they did with much less times. My biggest nitpic is Nyneave not breaking off most of the arrow (including the feathers) when she pushes it through Elayne.
@WoTtheAdaptation11 ай бұрын
I think everyone that watched the episode is bothered by the fletching left on the bolt when Nynaeve pushed it through. Well, except for the writing/production team and the director. That is by far the dumbest thing this show has done since Nynaeve claimed Moiraine had a "tell" that let her be tracked (even when riding a horse or being carried on someone else's horse half unconscious). Like, that's not how tracking works, and that's not how first aid should EVER be done. Like, seriously, WTF Rafe?
@maxsilva1110 ай бұрын
That bolt came from a crossbow. It could conceivably be thick enough to be too difficult to break off cleanly, without doing even more damage to Elayne.
@matsdaggerx314111 ай бұрын
By far my favorite episode I've been lucky enough to be a part of!

I loved this discussion. I think in terms of an adaptation, it’s an 8 as a none book reader that became a book reader after watching the first half of season 2. In comparison to Game of Thrones, I actually think it’s better. I can totally rewatch this show but I struggle rewatching GOT. it’s not higher because I actually think Foundation on Apple TV + is better than both of these fantasy genre shows. I do worry that we will not get the full story because book readers are pouring tar into the cisterns. With that said, I appreciate the way you guys navigated and corrected each other’s course.
@WoTtheAdaptation11 ай бұрын
Glad you loved this, and thank you for watching (and commenting). I'm personally torn when it comes to the *Foundation* adaptation; the show is great television, and it is attempting what should by all rights be impossible. The Foundation books, especially the first one, really is one of the most *un*adaptable books I have read, at least if you want to try to stay accurate to the plot as well as the story. It's a hard one and they are doing a great show. Still, I personally think *Wheel of Time* is is a more accurate adaptation than *Foundation* is, but that is just me. Eventually, we might tackle *Game of Thrones* in some manner, in a way that viewers won't have to rewatch the series to follow along with us.
