Loved this discussion! When you had everyone trying to rate the show as an adaptation, all I could think of is “Is the show doing its job of telling Robert’s story?” The answer to that is a definite Yes! It’s introduced these characters and this world to millions of new souls. It has us all discussing, arguing, theorizing, gushing, and just falling in love with this story. It has created a new playground for us to play in. The 30 year old playground just got a huge expansion with all new, yet familiar toys.

I'm listening to Rebecca describe her theory about Siuan and here's the thing: Siuan HAD to do everything she did because Lan told Alanna about Rand. Now that an Aes Sedai knows, the secret is out. Siuan IS TRAPPED. As Amyrlin, if she knows Moiraine has the Dragon and she does nothing, she will be immediately deposed and Moiraine and Rand will be hunted down (and remember: at this point Siuan also knows Moiraine is stilled and can't protect herself or Rand). So she doesn't have a choice. She has to make a grand spectacle of going to Cairhien to meet Moiraine and Rand and take the Dragon in hand as she's expected to. This is literally her only option. The one thing she doesn't know is whether Rand can handle being on the run from the Tower. Moiraine can't channel so Rand has to be the one protecting them both. When she meets with him, she realizes he's utterly unprepared. She's forced to take them into custody. Maybe the single Aes Sedai holding them was Siuan hoping they'd escape in a way that gives her plausible deniability. But she had no other choice but to hold them.
@christianrapper11 ай бұрын
That would be plausible if Siuan didn’t act exactly the same way when she was alone with them. There was no plan. Siuan acted exactly as she felt.

Here's my thought about Min: she's currently in the same city as Siuan and Logain. Maybe the coup happens right here and they end up fleeing the city together at the beginning of season 3. Why get them all back to Tar Valon to have something happen there if they're already all in the same location with enough Aes Sedai to depose an Amyrlin, and enough damning circumstances to do so?
@WoTtheAdaptation11 ай бұрын
That's an interesting theory, thank you for giving me something to think about
@christopherdavis691811 ай бұрын
This is exactly my theory. I think we start season 3 in a very dramatic and fast paced way. With the release of the other forsaken, the stakes are higher than ever. I think we get introduced to Elaida in the first episode. I think we get a lot of payoff from the Daes Dae’mar episode. We find out more was happening than we were aware and Siuan returns to Tar Valon fully aware she is compromised. I wouldn’t be surprised if they take her through the streets stilled and deposed like Logaine. I think the sudden removal of the Amyrlin causes the schism and the rebels to flee along with Siuan’s escape. Meanwhile the Edmond’s Field gang gets divided up as chaos breaks out from the released forsaken actions. Rand flees Falme to the waste as a “safe haven.”

One of the metaphysics nitpicks was how Liandrin put out Egwene’s fire. Slow it down. She doesn’t suck the fire into herself. She pulls it into a swirly void in front of her. (I can’t really think of a better word to describe it. 😅) But if she created a pocket with no air inside it and then pull all the fire into it, the fire would go out.

I loved this discussion. I think in terms of an adaptation, it’s an 8 as a none book reader that became a book reader after watching the first half of season 2. In comparison to Game of Thrones, I actually think it’s better. I can totally rewatch this show but I struggle rewatching GOT. it’s not higher because I actually think Foundation on Apple TV + is better than both of these fantasy genre shows. I do worry that we will not get the full story because book readers are pouring tar into the cisterns. With that said, I appreciate the way you guys navigated and corrected each other’s course.
@WoTtheAdaptation11 ай бұрын
Glad you loved this, and thank you for watching (and commenting). I'm personally torn when it comes to the *Foundation* adaptation; the show is great television, and it is attempting what should by all rights be impossible. The Foundation books, especially the first one, really is one of the most *un*adaptable books I have read, at least if you want to try to stay accurate to the plot as well as the story. It's a hard one and they are doing a great show. Still, I personally think *Wheel of Time* is is a more accurate adaptation than *Foundation* is, but that is just me. Eventually, we might tackle *Game of Thrones* in some manner, in a way that viewers won't have to rewatch the series to follow along with us.

Referring to the Rosamund Pike thing with the doorway and losing a star actor! I’m expecting with fewer seasons in the show that the time she will be gone will be really condensed. The four books where things slow down could be one season fora start. And even within that session she could come back even earlier than in the books?
@andrewberenson571711 ай бұрын
I agree with Lauren's theories about Moiraine and Siuan. They were working together but Siuan was also compulsed. As an adaptation, it is a 5. But just because there is so much detail and stuff in the books it is impossible to have a true adaptation with the amount of episodes they have.
@WoTtheAdaptation11 ай бұрын
Yeah, Amazon really hamstringed Rafe and the other producers sticking them to ~1 hour episodes, and only eight seasons of eight episodes... I've said it a million times, this show deserves 7 seasons of 13 episodes each, with each episode running 70-90 minutes. *THEN* they would be able to the series more justice.

Siun will take Min to Yar Valon to continue that story line
@andrewberenson571711 ай бұрын
I think Kate Fleetwood did the best acting performance of the entire cast. My favorite scene. Egwene confronting Rena and ultimately killing her. They spent too much time with Alanna's family. They could have accomplished what they did with much less times. My biggest nitpic is Nyneave not breaking off most of the arrow (including the feathers) when she pushes it through Elayne.
@WoTtheAdaptation11 ай бұрын
I think everyone that watched the episode is bothered by the fletching left on the bolt when Nynaeve pushed it through. Well, except for the writing/production team and the director. That is by far the dumbest thing this show has done since Nynaeve claimed Moiraine had a "tell" that let her be tracked (even when riding a horse or being carried on someone else's horse half unconscious). Like, that's not how tracking works, and that's not how first aid should EVER be done. Like, seriously, WTF Rafe?
@maxsilva1110 ай бұрын
That bolt came from a crossbow. It could conceivably be thick enough to be too difficult to break off cleanly, without doing even more damage to Elayne.
@andrewberenson571711 ай бұрын
Siuan was compulsed to put Rand in a cage.

In all reviews here on KZbin regarding the wot adaptation, one aspect has not been talked about..the Great Lord..who he is, is he imprisoned, and if so how, did llt seal him up in the show, etc. He's only mentioned a couple times but never really delved into and no commentator has talked about that lack in the show. Thoughts anyone ?
@andrewberenson571711 ай бұрын
I disagree with the person who thinks the only reason we have a WoT show is because of escapism. The only reason we have it is because Amazon wanted a show as a dry run for Rings of Power. RoP is a pet project for Jeff Bezos.

While I don't necessarily agree with you on that, I do respect your opinion and thank you for sharing it. Opinions on art will vary, that's fine.

I don't see good fantasy as escapism. To me it's psychology. So it's deep.
@WoTtheAdaptation10 ай бұрын
@@kathryncainmadsen5850 Even when it has deep meanings and says a lot about society and the like, all fiction is still escapism. Something can be both escapism and deeply thoughtful, they are not mutually exclusive traits.

What happened to all of the Shanaran soldiers? Uno is the only one we saw die. Yet in Episode 8, we only see Ingtar and Masema.
@WoTtheAdaptation11 ай бұрын
I'm assuming the others were da'covale somewhere in the city or had been sent elsewhere. Some could also have been killed in the general mayhem when the Seanchan invaded Atuan's Mill, all before Uno "blew the horn." Yes, unnamed extras can and will die off screen.
