I think it's to stop videos being viewed whilst the car is driven but I've read somewhere that if it's just earthed to the stereo chassis it overcomes that anyway.

It was such a fun looking at somebody else struggling with this abomination. To avoid those problems it helps much to have your lock well LUBRICATED all the time (it being stuck is the main reason the mechanism breaks), plus to be the only one you let open the bonnet (because others doing it with force is usually the time it breaks) If you still care for this car, it is probably the best idea to ask somebody to fabricate you a sturdy metal lever, attach it to the mechanism and on the other side make it poke through the grille Me I got used to lifting up the bottom part of the grille, going in with my hand and turning the mechanism with my hand (praying that the sphere doesn't get detached from the fork and swearing at the idiot who engineered this.) If you are still in the process of opening the bonnet, just pry the bottom part up, then go inside with the hand. . If you have a plastic lever, it will usually break at the lock, so you can turn the lever with your hand (but do it carefully so it doesn't get detached). If you have the wire system depicted here, pull iit out and turn the mechanism with your pliers. It is not a bad idea to look at the footage here to see what things look like inside to know what you are doing - actually knowing what is where is the most important thing here. Let me say that if there is the 10th circle of hell, the engineer who's planned this is certainly there. If not anybody else, he is there. He fully deserves it. This is refined evil and stupidity. Let's look at those stages of idiocy: 1 - make a bonnet to be unlocked with the ignition key (not that you need to run the engine often when you open it ...) 2 - use an unreliable and easily broken mechanism 3 - (later) "upgrade" it with a plastic lever (this is the one I have and makes me mad on and on) - well, in one sense it is better because you can reach in and turn it, but it breaks much easier (plastic gets brittle over time, and it also gets disengaged quite easily from the "sphere" Oh, and I just realized, this is like BEGGING for somebody to pry out the lock cillinder from the soft plastic grille at the front, make a copy of the key and break into the vehicle .

That's a shame, really you would need to use a multimeter to work out where the problem is. Have a look in the cigarette lighter hole, make sure there are no debris in there. Take the fuse out if there are so you don't get a shock poking around in there. Check the fuse hasn't blown again straight away, indicating a short wire somewhere.

Hi, they are plastic. It’s a plastic screw that screws into a plastic fixing, I cut the top off of both the screw and the fixing it screws into, ideally they need replacing but I didn’t bother as the whole unit clips back in fairly solidly and the closed bonnet holds it in place. Some people in the comments were able to pry the whole thing out rather than breaking it, but they are super cheap. Have a look at the other comments. Thanks for watching.

Popped the 2 side clips by turning a flat screwdriver and with some effort got the grille out (pop the hood open a bit by pushing a rubber handle between hood and headlights). The front cylinderlock and cable replacement is actually the easy part. Heads up tho for people with the 2.5, if you see a plastic v shaped cold air intake duct behind your grille try to undo the 2 bolts that hold it in. In my case i snapped them out causing in some damage to the plastic, couple zip ties to the rescue shhht haha. Opens and closes fine now, spent euro 29,99 and prob 45 minutes wasn't in a hurry.
