Thank you for posting the video. Student pilot here. I am using it in tandem with my instructors lesson on the subject. Is there a typo at 2:05 in the video where you say "Mandatory for VFR" on the bullet point or am I just not understanding it?
@FalconImagery
@FalconImagery 3 күн бұрын
Mandatory in the sense that if you are in Class B, C or D airspace you need to be talking to ATC. Whereas, in a TRSA a VFR pilot doesn't have to talk to ATC.

To my understanding, drones that are under 250 grams do not need to be registered with the FAA for recreational use and are not required to have a remote id. Is this still true? Also, does these recreational drones without the remote id must only fly in a FRIA? 🤔 Thanks in advance.
@FalconImagery
@FalconImagery 9 күн бұрын
It depends what you are doing with the drone under 0.55 lbs for recreational use". If you are flying the Category 1 Drone (under 0.55 lbs) you are permitted to operate over people, provided the small unmanned aircraft: - Weigh 0.55 pounds or less, including everything that is on board or otherwise attached to the aircraft at the time of takeoff and throughout the duration of each operation. - Contain no exposed rotating parts that would cause lacerations. - In addition, for Category 1 operations, no remote pilot in command may operate a small unmanned aircraft in sustained flight over open-air assemblies unless the operation is compliant with Remote ID. If, however, you are just using it for recreational use, and not over people than the Remote ID is not required. If, however, you are flying it under Part 107, regardless of flying over people, then the Remote ID has to be enabled.

I agree the ACS is a key tool with which to work. It will keep you focused on the correct material and prevent you from wasting time on subjects not relevant. The information in the lesson plans has to be correct of course. How is that determined? It shouldn't come from internet videos or be information from other people that you cannot substantiate. Every question about every subject in the ACS is answered in FAA material. I.e. if you want to confirm that you are teaching a maneuver correctly, be prepared to go to the correct section in the Airplane Flying Handbook, and point to the exact paragraph or sentence which provides the answer. It can then not be refuted by a DPE or an FAA Inspector. The most controversial subject is of course the Region of Reversed Command. You've probably heard someone say that below best glide speed, pitch and power reverses and power controls altitude. Be careful with that one. It should sound a bit suspicious that someone is saying a little six foot propeller pointed to create a force horizontally can oppose two thousand four hundred pounds of weight. The irrefutable answer is in the Pilot's Handbook of Aeronautical Knowledge. Chapter 11 has the discussion, and the Glossary has the simple answer. "Regions of command. The “regions of normal and reversed command” refers to the relationship between speed and the power required to maintain or change that speed in flight." So it isn't pitch and power at all - it's speed and power required to maintain that speed. I.e. as speed below best glide decreases, power required goes up to maintain the slower speed because drag increases, or the reverse of what happens from max cruise speed down to best glide where speed, drag, and power required all decrease together. Good thing if you're prepared with the correct answer.

Great video I understand everything you said and I memorize it very well but when it comes to real world with Questions at FAA how you can answer a question like this from the information that we have on the figure I really appreciate it if you can shoot a video or Explain it how you answer a question like that thanks 6. (Refer to Figure 64.) The course deviation indicators (CDIs) are centered. Which indications on the No. 1 and No. 2 VOR receivers over the St. Landry Parish-Ahart Field Airport would meet the requirements for the VOR receiver check using the Lafayette VORTAC? VOR TO/FROM VOR TO/FROM No. 1 No. 2 A. 162° TO 346° FROM B. 160° FROM 162° FROM C. 341° FROM 330° FROM
@FalconImagery
@FalconImagery Ай бұрын
I'm thinking the answer is A. Remember, you should have the CDI's dialed in so that they are both showing what radial you are on. In this question, they made it difficult to see, since they showed in A a 162 with a TO indication. Add 180 to that 162 and you get 342. Thus the CDI needles on each VOR are within 6 degrees of one another, making it the right answer. C would not be the correct answer, because they are beyond 6 degrees. B could also be the correct answer, but I can't be sure as I don't see the figure on what Radials are dialed in. But B seems to be too simple of an answer. However, if the CDIs are both on the radial (or close to it) of 160 degrees, then B would be the correct answer.

I know. One of the advantages of being on a Flight Plan, vs just flight following, or neither. As soon, as he went off the radar screen, and hadn't communicated his issue to ATC, they were looking for him. No, at least not in my Cub. I do get down in that direction regularly with my IFR students, or at least near that area. I typically have my IFR students go from KLCI to KEWB to KORW to KLCI.

Please note: I should have shown the aircraft flying slightly parallel and slightly above the 270 radial on that leg of the parallel entry. My animation skills are a bit limited.
@warren5699
@warren5699 Ай бұрын
Is there any reason the parallel entry (on the 270 radial) is not following the AIM, which says that entry "would be to turn to a heading to parallel the holding course outbound on the nonholding side for one minute". That would make the inbound turn easier by putting the aircraft closure to the inbound course after completing 180 degrees of the inbound turn.

great video, i want too go back to flying but due to my diabetes the faa won,t issue me a third class medical even though my condition is well under control(ie: no high or very low sugar, never passed out, had the condition since i was 20 yrs old but still held a 2nd class medical). well even though i,ve been away for 25 yrs from flying im can,t wait to get back (with a basic medical) to my cessna 150. mark

Glad to hear the video was helpful to you and I hope you can get back to flying soon. Also, you may want to think about looking into a Sports Pilot License, where no medical is required. Just a Drivers license. And with the Sports Pilot license changes that are underway (MOSAIC), even a Cessna 172 or a Piper Archer/Warrior will qualify as a light sport aircraft (though you still will only be able to carry one passenger in that 4 seat plane).

Back when WAAS was just getting implemented Garmin offered a low cost upgrade for many of their units, so I let them upgrade my GNC 420 it then became a GNC 420W with a new CPU and more memory as well as software changes. Time moves on though and the touchscreen units available now add some new features look easier to operate too. Someday I may get one of those touchscreen device's but for now I get a lot out of the old Garmin GNC 420W.
