In this video I go over the requirements for pilot flight reviews, or Biennial Flight Reviews. I also cover the exemptions that negate the need for having to have a flight review during a 24 month period.
Per 14 CFR 61.56, to maintain your pilot certificate currency, the FAA requires a Flight Review with a Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) every 24 months. Also, AC61-98E discusses - Currency Requirements and Guidance for the Flight Review and Instrument Proficiency Check. #aviation #flightreview

@@FalconImagery Wow! What small world. :) Can I ask you a question? I've had different answers to this. I'm trying to find out if I have to get current on my own in some flight school, or can I get current at CAP and start flying practice search and rescue flights?

CAP will pay for a couple of flights to help you get ready to take the Form 5 for the Mission Transport Pilot spot. Then they will pay for your flights to get you to Mission Pilot status. If you are struggling after a couple of flights for the mission transport pilot position then you can pay for the flights on your own dime. The rental rates for the CAP planes are less than any flight school and the CAP CFI can’t charge you for any of the flight training. However that CAP CFI has often other things to do then do a lot of free flight training, unless they are retired

So it really depends how rusty you are. Sometimes I get cap pilots that flew a plane last many years ago and they are rough. Or they are young and only have a 100 hours in a Skyhawk or archer. These pilots usually need a few flights before they are ready for a Form 5 checkride

Lastly, when you have the form 5 just ask the CFI conducting it to have it bee your annual flight review that will work for the FAA and your currency
