I have been using this for a few years 3X9 46T 12-36 and 22/32/44 just make sure chain is long enough for big/big. Plan on changing to 2x9 11-42 and 22/36 for one more low gear. Could alway add 10spd road shifters (non 4700), cassette and chain for 2x10 someday. M3020 works with all 7,8,9 and 10spd road shimano non cues.

Great build and a great way to put new life into an old bike , in my opinion you should always try to avoid putting grease on the bb square tapered spindle due to the fact if the interface of the crankset and the BB isn’t quite right the grease could be a problem

Have the Y5 polished aluminum one. First dual suspension bike I ever owned. Added 98 Judy XL with Titec Hellbent bars and Azonic stem with SDG seat. IRC Kudjo tires Oury grips. Came with Matrix Swami rims, Shimano servo-wave action v-brakes, LX components. Think I added a Stratos Helix Expert rear shock. Loved that bike and rode it to the ground. still have the frame. What should you do with it? No clue. The sky is the limit. Nice simple single pivot. Came with Bontager strait bars and stem with a small back sweep. My friend let me ride that exact Y3 pictured. That got me hooked on MTB. Just wanted to share. That bike has some sort of geometric balance like an Egyptian pyramid. Good luck with the build.

My mtb had a longer top tube and shorter head tube than my road bikes. Had to use a high rise quill stem with short extension to get bars where I wanted them.

Hope products look Great🤘🤘. I bought their 2014 T6 aluminum blue headset spacer kit for my 2006/07 Trek 4300🤘🤘. I might buy their seat post collars, too👍👍. I have another Trek 4300, and I am ordering their red spacer kit and their red headset🤘🤘. It might not be a 7075 T6 aluminum Chris King ( which I have the Royal Navy blue King headset on my 2006/07 Trek 4300🤘🤘), but that's ok😁

Did this today in the wet. I also slipped at 1:13 in your vid (where you put your hand on the rock). Unfortunately, I fell to the other side, headfirst onto the rocks about 10ft below. Currently shopping for a new helmet.

Ohh dude! You good? Not ridden Afan since 2019 and it felt a little over grown. Hows it riding now?
@derekfoster935726 күн бұрын
@@MozOnBikes Yeah, still have a headache, a few nasty bruises, and a fat lip, but the helmet did its job. The helmet was about 20 years old so not a bad idea to replace it anyway. It was one of those landings where MIPS probably would have helped, so I'll splash out on a fancy one. Most of the Afan trails are closed or have diversions that take out the best bits (e.g. The Wall), so I've only done Penhydd so far. That was in pretty good condition, aside from all the slippy rocks. Nothing overgrown.

This video shows that a chainstay protector is pretty well essential. My Tiagra derailleur allows the chain to slap the chainstays but with a 2x system the lack of a clutch is no big deal.

This is great 🙌 I'm doing the same with an old gt saddleback. Mine has front suspension too but I like the rigid fork look. Could I just do a straight swap or are the suspension forks longer and so creating geometry problems?

Great video. I want to do the same to my 1994 Bear Valley SE which I have had from new. Unfortunately I do not have the original front fork and it seems hard to find an original fork. Is there a modern fork that you would recommend?

Those Cannondale stradel guides, for the brakes, are called Force 40, "apparently" they gave up to 40% extra braking power. I would bever spec cantilevers with cheap pads, they'll have next to no bite; get some koolstop salmon pads. Other than that, thats a beautiful build.

Now I have the confidence to do this on my own fork. Got a super deal on one of these but it’s set for 170 and I need 150. Thanks!

I was distracted by you kepet saying that these Shimano parts were Alex then realised that's how you say LX. My favourite V brakes are the XTR parallelogram. As for removing grips I use wd40 with the fine red tube which with help of a slim screwdriver I slide into the grip and with a bit of jiggling come off easily. £50 well spent for the parts. The welds on the frame are pretty ugly so I think it's good to donate.

I have that same Deore LX group set on my 94 Stumpjumper FS, it runs flawlessly after 30 years but yeah I'd have pretty much done the same as you with the parts & might've considered turning it into a pub bike if I could replace the components completely from my parts bin, also $50 hell you could hardly find that rear mech for that much.
@samblenkharn8099Ай бұрын
Cool bike. Full XT groupset is class. Is that a preference to have the brake levers/shifters set that far in towards the stem? Generally I butt them up to the inside end of the grips. Maybe I've just got smaller hands lol. Good nineties XC race bike vibes anyway with the way you have them, especially combined with that very long stem! Nice work and cool to see a bit of riding footage after the build footage.

Yeah its such a shame about the poor condition of the paint, im what might have happened is the original spec had flat bars, a long stem and bar end, which have the awful habit of rotating into the top tube in bikes of this period! One crash or 2 and thats the top tube all scared up and then theres less care given!
@TheElbrassoАй бұрын
Unbelievably youtube recommended me that video you speak of just yesterday! The guy with all his bikes lined up against the fence, his mum and dad must have been minted! Love the colour on this though. I tried restoring my old odyssey triple traps, just couldn't get the bearings right, they were either too lose or too tight, so gave up. I get the grips off much the same way as you, but with a kids toy screwdriver and WD40. Love the vids mate👍

Ohh no way! Yeah that the chap he's got a bit of an odd collection but each one seems to mean something to him so you cant knock it. Ive definitely bought some retro MTB just because they were cheap and in great condition, to the average Joe it make little sense but its nice to have a near shop fresh bike thats 30 years old i think. I actually wish the paint was in better condition on this one as the unmarked areas are really really nice! Oh and cheers for the heads up on the triple traps, sounds tricky, i'll do some research on those.

Really good hack! Few weeks ago I tried more or less the same group set and I can prove that this setup works perfectly. So, my setup right now is GRX ST-RX400 2x10 shifters (or brake levers), in the front I have Tiagra FC-4700, 50/34 MK (compact) crankset and in the rear 11-34t 10 speed cassette and 10 speed KMC chain. So, I decided to move with GRX RD-RX810 rear derailleur, because for me looks more beautiful and quality than RD-RX400, but actually tried both and have no problem with both of them, easy adjust and shifting perfectly.
