2:34 LEWIS BALL, selling his papers, he knew everyone and everyone knew him, and nobody paid the price on the paper, we all rounded up. He rode a bicycle till he couldn't, then he pushed it, the other paper boy was Nipp and they always competed. So most people bought 2 papers.

A real memory from the past I discovered Herp Jepko and all-night "Nitecaps" show on WHAS right when it started I believe January 1, 1973 I was young back then I even got myself a membership card and called in as a 12 or 13-year old to hold conversations with Herb and some of his fill-in hosts.

I heard this song at night on my radio summer session at UC Santa Barbara. The signal was strong, and then it faded out and then it came back. This recording replicates exactly the way. I heard it. The station ID said KSL in Salt Lake City. That was quite a skip and now I find out KSL was a very powerful clear channel radio station. I was amused and touched to hear the callers as I dozed off at night. I was a teenager then, but I’m in my 60’s like those callers in 1976. Too bad something as soothing and non offensive like that would never work now.

Did a double take at those menu prices. Then I remembered: 1987. duhhh Some people might think this scene is grim and depressing. I don't. I've lived in Appalachia since 1999, and I've seen a LOT of places like this. It happens when you go out with women you meet on Internet dating sites. 🙂🙂

Oh, say can you see By the dawn's early light What so proudly we hailed At the twilight last gleaming Who broad stripes and bright stars Through the perilous flight Or the ramparts we watched You so gallantly streaming. And the rockets red glare Bombs bursting in the air Gave prove to the night That our flag was still there Oh say does that star spangled banner yet wave Or the land of the free And the home of the brave

So glad to see this, having heard this at age 13 on WHAS (living in SE Indiana). Still up late at night in the same home, again listening to WHAS (Coast To Coast AM tonight) before moving on to Red Eye Radio on Cincinnati's WLW 700.

I listened to the Night Caps from Houston in 1974-76 on WHAS, Louisville. Thank goodness the new station from 850 in Houston was only a daytime station at that time. I was in high school and it gave me a sense of appreciation of older people at that time. Now I'm at that age, and nothing like that to listen to. What a different world we live in. Thanks for the memory.

Looks like it was that old US Navy film a bunch of stations used to play, and it's the one with the band on the steps of what appears to be a state legislature or the Navy building in DC, as well as shots of an aircraft carrier and frigate. WJZ and several big city stations near naval bases used this.
