One of the first songs I learnt many moons ago was Postman Pat, with the alternating C and G bass. I used to play it for my children 20 years on.

Just as an idea, when you show the chords - to explain visually which strings you are emphasising could be shown in red?

This was very informative. I've been looking for ways to spice up my strumming a bit. I don't use a pick and my guitar has nylon strings, so I have a couple of extra challenges. I am however learning to use hammer-ons. But how do I decide which finger to hammer-on? Is there some reason to use one finger over another?
@PetersAcousticMusicChannel21 күн бұрын
Thank you. There is no hard and fast rule about which fingers to hammer on, But a good guideline is that a hammer on often takes you from a 2nd (e.g. a C2) to a regular version of a chord (e.g. C major) or from a regular version of a chord (e.g. D major) to a suspended fourth (e.g. D4). In case that sounds a little complicated, on a C major take your finger off the 4th string to play that string open - that is a C2 (which is just a C chord with the note of D thrown in). Then hammer back on to the fourth string second fret, and you are back to a regular C chord. Or hammer your little finger on to the top string 3rd fret while playing a D major chord, and you have a Dsus 4 (a D chord with the note if G in it). Hope that helps.

Hi Peter.I am 67years old and have been playing for about 6 or 7 years now.I can play chords,barre chords,power chords etc.I seem to be stuck around what they call the cowboy chords most of the time. I find it difficult to play up the neck in different octaves and theory difficult. I love your style of teaching .Thank you. Dermot 🎸
@PetersAcousticMusicChannel22 күн бұрын
Thanks Dermot. If you can play barre chords, you are doing well, so keep going with the 'cowboy chords', and they will come. For myself, if I know I'm about to play a difficult phrase, sometimes I tense up a bit, and it's the anticipation of the thing rather than doing the thing itself that makes me go wrong. If I come back to that difficult phrase after a week or two's break, then sometimes I find I can just do it. Not sure if that helps, but anyway, nice to make your acquaintance, and keep going :-)

This was a very good. thorough lesson, but I get frustrated when an instructor doesn't play the song all the way through at the end. To me that seems to be the obvious finale for any lesson..That's the part I would rewind over and over again once I learned the chords how to make the guitar sound like it's supposed to.
@PetersAcousticMusicChannelАй бұрын
Hi Jimmy. I published a cover of 'Tangled Up in Blue', which is at kzbin.info/www/bejne/q32ogn18mrt_fa8 . The cover follows the structure outlined in the lesson more or less exactly - so you should be able to practice to it and rewind it and so on. The cover is on my other channel, Peter's Songs: www.youtube.com/@PetersSongs.

You play beautiful, but I’m finding it really frustrating to try and follow your teaching, you omit notes that you play which make it impossible to follow. And slowing it down doesn’t make it any easier. Would do anything for you to redo this song without skipping anything.

I have to admit I'm a little new to Open E, but it does open up some new perspectives (no pun intended!). I think some of Joni Mitchell's songs are in Open E. I'm a big fan of hers, but her voice has such a wide range that some of her stuff is difficult for me to sing.
