Will this work if I have the Atac shocks?
@ponycarfan
@ponycarfan 20 сағат бұрын
@@383cutlass8 Great question! Yes, it will. The ATAC settings are built into the G8 display. The wiring harness is the same, as well. During the Catalyst photo shoot (before we knew about the G8), the engineers told me that the plug for the display was the same for the Deluxe Digital gauge (ATAC for 2024) and the new Sport gauge. Therefore, all 2024-25 Catalysts are compatible with the G8.

Is there any worry about having to rebalance the entire clutch with the new ( although balanced) cover on? Considering that the original clutch cover was indexed and balanced with the entire clutch but the new has not, it would seem that it could set the entire balance off.

@@danielgailis5700 That’s a great question, and one I didn’t address in the video. My new Catalyst came with it. So far I have quite a few issues with it. The UI as usual is sub-par because everything Garmin makes has a crap UI. I don't like how the ATAC shocks work (again, very poor UI). I haven't found a way to set the maps to top-down rather than 3D. And since the thing won't power on unless you start the sled (even with electric start) it's not like I can play with it.
@ponycarfan
@ponycarfan 26 күн бұрын
@@robgoffroad Yeah, I have asked them for a way to power the unit without starting the engine and am told there's currently no way to do it. As far as I can tell, the G8 internal battery is good for about an hour at full backlight and you can set the auto shutoff for up to 30 minutes. But, you have to start the engine to get it powered on. I'm disappointed that you couldn't change 3D to top down, and will investigate. On the ATAC, have you had that before? I have found it a little confusing, especially at first. That applies to the previous display, imo.
@ponycarfan
@ponycarfan 26 күн бұрын
@@robgoffroad I have not powered up my G8 yet, but looking at the way all Garmins appear to work, and looking back on this video footage, I think it's consistent. When displaying the map, there's an up arrow on the right. Touch the arrow, and that should give you the option for 2D north up, 2D direction up or 3D. Next time you start the sled, change auto shutoff to 30 minutes, then display the map and give that a try. If I get to mine before you do, I'll let you know what I find out.
@robgoffroad
@robgoffroad 26 күн бұрын
@@ponycarfan I went out there and fired up the sled to power up the unit, then shut down the sled. I played around a bit but could not find out how to set the timeout. I DID find out that you CAN set the map to top-down view and where north is always up, just the way I like it. So that much is good. It says its battery is only at 36% and so the only way to charge it is to run the sled. Grrr. I was reading the manual and it says break in is in two stages -- Stage 1 is 18 minutes with a lot of extra oil, Stage 2 is three hours with more oil than normal, but not as much as Stage 1. So I don't want to just idle the thing wasting time for Stage 1 of break-in. I still can't believe Cat couldn't be bothered to tie this thing to the sled's battery.

Was there a warranty disclaimer when you bought the part? I wonder if Cat would void it?
@ponycarfan
@ponycarfan Ай бұрын
That's a good question. There's no disclaimer. I think this is a safe modification, as long as the brake disk remains loose. The torque spec given by Precision EFI is plenty safe to avoid a problem with that. The upside is that this would potentially save a rider from a warranty claim or failure down the road after the warranty expires. The downside is that it could cause a problem with the brake if over-torqued (which is pretty hard to do). Still, I think it's a valid concern - this mod is not sold or promoted by Arctic Cat.

They put the helmets on and are ready to go in about 2 minutes. No worry’s about the chin curtain either. It’s not an issue. Minor thing to get used to is the silicone nose piece in the morning. Great review! I currently have a 2014 ZR 9000 limited and I am considering upgrading to the 2024 9000 riot with the power steering. I have always ridden a 129 track and love to trail ride, so my only concern is that the 146 will be very hard to handle in the corners. Do you think the 10 additional years of engineering will make up for the loss of handling with the longer track? Basically I'm asking if the much newer version will handle close to as well as my 2014 even though the track is 146...
@ponycarfan
@ponycarfan 2 ай бұрын
@@BrockoM You might consider the Thundercat with EPS, because of the shorter track. The Riot 9000 is a great sled, but it does push a bit - that long track really likes to go in a straight line. The trails I ride are generally tighter and twistier, and any Riot is going to need a bit more attention than the shorter-tracked sleds. For rail beds, the longer track works as an advantage, because it’s more stable at higher speeds. EPS makes steering on both the Tcat and Riot so effortless that you can take it for granted. The Riot needs you to anticipate turns and get ready ahead of time. I made a video titled “1,000 subscriber special” and I tell a story about someone else’s misadventure on the Riot 9000, and I think part of the problem for him was forgetting to plan ahead, something that’s required on the Riot. He probably would’ve been fine on the Thundercat. Arctic Cat has made steady improvements to the ProCross chassis and you may be fine with either, but the Tcat would probably be my preference between the two.
